Job Purpose

We’re looking for a dedicated Drainage Network Technician to lead the resolution of reactive network asset failures and incidents where first-time resolution has not been achieved. You’ll act as the local technical expert for all aspects of the drainage network, working to improve overall drainage performance and customer satisfaction. The role also involves contributing to the development and delivery of a drainage performance improvement plan.

Accountabilities

& Responsibilities

You will be responsible for responding to primarily planned work on the Wastewater Network and reactive work as required. Analysing drainage data to identify failure trends, taking corrective action to improve overall drainage performance (SIM/Cmex, ODI; Cash; Health and Safety). You will also be responsible for:

  • Lead proactive network management by identifying repeat incidents, investigating root causes, and implementing interventions to prevent future failures, while supporting the Drainage Performance Engineer as needed.
  • Support maintenance and investment planning by developing and reviewing maintenance schedules, identifying investment needs, and raising serviceability works and Very Small Projects (VSPs).
  • Ensure compliance and data accuracy by adhering to health, safety, and environmental policies, maintaining accurate asset and regulatory records, and supporting Environment Agency protocol.
  • Engage with stakeholders and customers by drafting responses to MPs and councillors, managing escalated complaints, attending appointments, and improving customer satisfaction.
  • Provide technical support and insight by identifying performance trends, supporting delivery teams, contributing to event reports, and embracing new technologies to enhance network visibility.

Participate on the standby rota

Technical Skills & Experience
  • Good understanding of IT systems and their capabilities.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of day-to-day drainage system and associated maintenance techniques.
  • Excellent wastewater regulatory understanding.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Reporting and presentation skills (both oral and written)
  • Ability to interface with customers and provide excellent customer service.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills - able to work to deadlines and achieve personal objectives.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 GCSEs grades A-C or equivalent (which must include Maths, English and a Science or Technology subject)
  • Full UK driving licence is required to carry out the role.
