Job Description

As a Senior Cost Manager, you will work with an Associate to cost‑commercially manage, coordinate and deliver water projects. You’ll cover the entire project lifecycle from initial inception, through design, procurement, on‑site delivery and commissioning.

Responsibilities
  • Lead Cost/Commercial Management commissions, taking responsibility for their successful delivery.
  • Participate in appropriate meetings and proactively engage in discussions, contributing to the PEP, preparing cost reports, assisting with procurement strategies and tender documentation, and providing general post contract commercial management and administration.
  • Proactively engage with Client, contractor and other stakeholders, maintaining awareness of the scope of service and ensuring delivery within agreed parameters to help prevent disputes.
  • Provide client‑side cost management, including stakeholder, risk and contract management.
  • Support projects and commissions to be delivered to the satisfaction of the client for quality, cost and time.
  • Develop strong relationships with clients and members of the cross‑functional team.
  • Support business development opportunities with existing and new clients.
  • Provide support on contract management services on NEC4 contracts, administering through a contract management system.
  • Advise the client on procurement strategies and review tender documentation.
Qualifications
  • Infrastructure cost/commercial management experience (Flood alleviation sector experience desirable).
  • Excellent knowledge of the NEC suite of contracts, especially the Professional Services Contract (PSC) and Engineering and Construction Contract (ECC).
  • Experience working as part of an integrated, multi‑organisation, collaborative team.
  • Good communication and organisational skills.
  • Relationship building skills – ability to build strong relationships with clients, teams and stakeholders and maintain a network of business contacts.
  • Able to work under own initiative while working closely with Senior Project Managers and Associates.
  • Team player with a ‘can‑do’ attitude, outgoing, polite, patient, diplomatic, personable, respectful and flexible.
  • Excellent IT skills and the ability to utilise current digital tools.
  • Excellent numeracy, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage relationships both internally and externally.
  • Keen to work as part of a team and to develop and progress career development.
  • Engender a right first‑time approach.
  • Supporter of social and CSR activities, promoting a positive and enjoyable workplace.
Education, Professional Qualifications & Requirements
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a consulting or contractor environment.
  • A relevant degree such as quantity surveying or a related subject; exceptional candidates may be considered on relevant industry experience.
  • Excellent understanding and use of the NEC suite of contracts, particularly the PSC and ECC.
  • Ideally an NEC Accredited Project Manager or willing to undertake the training course.
  • Preferably a member of a related professional body (e.g., RICS) or working towards chartership.
  • You may be required to undertake and successfully complete security screening checks.
