Graduate Mental Health & SEMH Support Assistant

Location: L13, Liverpool
Start Date: Immediate
Contract: Temp-to-Perm (12 weeks → potential permanent role)

About the Role

A welcoming and inclusive primary school in the L13 area is seeking a Graduate SEMH & Mental Health Support Assistant to join their team. This is an excellent opportunity for graduates in Psychology, Education, Criminology, Social Work, or related degrees who are passionate about supporting children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
.

You will work closely with boys in KS1 and KS2
, providing emotional regulation support, targeted interventions, and help managing challenging behaviour. This role is ideal for someone considering a future career in teaching, educational psychology, mental health work, or SEND
.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support pupils with SEMH needs on a 1:1 and small-group basis.
  • Deliver emotional wellbeing and behaviour-based interventions.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils who may experience dysregulation or trauma.
  • Use de-escalation strategies and relational approaches to support behaviour.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, the SENCO, and pastoral staff.
  • Help pupils develop coping skills, confidence, and positive routines.
  • Contribute to a safe, stable, and nurturing learning environment.
Ideal Candidate Profile
  • Graduate in Psychology, Education, Criminology, Social Sciences, or similar.
  • Experience working with children or vulnerable young people (desirable but not essential).
  • Team Teach trained (preferred) or willingness to complete training.
  • Strong understanding of mental health, trauma-informed practice, or behaviour support.
  • Empathetic, calm, resilient, and able to remain solution-focused.
  • Passionate about making a long-term difference to children’s wellbeing and engagement.
