Electrical Installation Lecturer

Department: Sustainable Construction & Building Services

Location: Liverpool

Salary: £33,451 – £46,533 per year

Job Type: Permanent, full-time (35 hours/week)

This role works with the Construction department to achieve excellence in teaching, learning and assessment. You will create effective, stimulating learning opportunities for all students through high‑quality teaching and assessment. You will deliver outstanding teaching on all levels, from Level 1 to Level 3, including evening programmes and industry‑relevant skills. You will post, assess, and continuously refine the electrical installation curriculum, providing innovative work and support to students' progression.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the College mission and values and its implementation in all College life.
  • Support College and curriculum strategic objectives and engage in the annual review.
  • Keep up with national developments in the subject area and update knowledge and skills annually.
  • Plan, prepare and deliver high‑quality lessons, managing the learning process effectively.
  • Use a range of teaching techniques to engage and motivate students, encouraging independence and autonomy.
  • Establish a safe, supportive learning environment where students feel valued.
  • Maintain appropriate behaviour procedures, communicating respect and addressing discriminatory behaviour.
  • Set and mark work in line with College assessment policy, recording all assessment.
  • Track student progress and attendance using College systems.
  • Balance teaching styles and learning experiences appropriately.
  • Assist with external and internal assessment procedures.
  • Improve communication skills and maximise effective communication.
  • Collaborate with the Head of School to design programmes and teaching approaches that raise curriculum standards.
  • Support teaching, learning and assessment administration with the Head of School and curriculum teams.
  • Identify and address student English and Maths development needs in the subject area.
  • Engage in future training and professional development.
  • Consult with parents, carers and students during events such as Parent’s Evening and Open Evening.
  • Ensure all students comply with College policies and procedures.
  • Provide enrichment opportunities to enhance the student experience.
Essential Criteria
  • Degree or equivalent in Electrical Installation (Level 4 education).
  • Assessor Award (A1 or TAQA).
  • Minimum Level 2 literacy and numeracy, or willingness to complete.
  • Recent experience of teaching and assessing Electrical Installation courses.
  • Knowledge of electrical provision.
  • Commitment to continuing professional development.
  • Computer literacy and ability to use current college IT programmes.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • High standards for students, colleagues and personal performance.
Desirable Criteria
  • Recognised teaching qualification and extensive vocational experience.
  • Quality Assurance/IQA award.
  • Relevant professional qualification (e.g., ECS Gold Card).
  • BS7671 18th edition and C&G 2391/2394/2395 testing & inspection.
  • Experience of curriculum planning, development & delivery in Electrical Installation.
  • Experience of online delivery.
  • ICT qualification.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body (MIET, etc.).
  • Assessment and curriculum planning experience using Technology Enhanced Learning.
  • Understanding of employer needs in curriculum development.
  • Fluency in one or more of Arabic, Chinese, Farsi, Kurdish Sorani, Tigrinya, Spanish, French, Portuguese.
