Overview
Applications are invited for a fixed term 12 month fellow post in Medical Retina. This is a full-time post providing post-CCT level training for ophthalmologists who wish to specialise in Medical Retina.
Start date will be 1st August 2026 or as soon after as possible.
Interviews will be virtual on Teams on Thursday 19th March 2026.
This post is based at St Pauls Eye Unit at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital (RLUH), which is part of the Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (LUHFT).
Responsibilities and opportunitiesThe post is clinical with two sessions per week available for study, research and audit. There will be opportunities to contribute to clinical research in Medical Retina and Uveitis and join as a sub-investigator in a number of on-going clinical trials in age-related macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, uveitis and inherited retinal diseases. There is a strong emphasis on active participation in weekly teaching, training activities and journal clubs.
Clinical activities include age-related macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, retinal vascular disease, inflammatory eye disease, inherited retinal disease, macular disease, general and acute ophthalmology. The timetable will likely include a theatre session on alternate weeks to enable fellows with cataract surgery experience to maintain their skills but is not intended to provide training in cataract surgery. There is a commitment to the emergency eye service during working hours.
The post does not include an out-of-hours commitment.
