Job Summary
We are seeking a 0.6
WTE Consultant in Palliative Medicine to join an enthusiastic and committed team supporting patients within Liverpool and South Sefton. The post is part of the Integrated Mersey Palliative Care Team (IMPaCT) based at Woodlands Hospice and includes integral clinical responsibilities across in‑patient and ambulatory services.
- Provide medical cover for the in‑patient unit at Woodlands Hospice.
- Support ambulatory/out‑patient services within the IMPaCT North service, including the virtual ward.
- Deliver cross‑cover support to other services and community visits to ensure continuity of care.
- Participate in the current second‑on‑call medical rota for weeknights (5 pm – 9 am) and weekends (5 pm Friday – 9 am Monday) covering the North Liverpool/ South Sefton locality.
- Provide 0.5 programme activity per day at weekends to support the virtual ward remotely, with compensatory time off to be taken the following week.
- Full GMC registration and licence to practise
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register for Palliative Medicine via CCT (or within 6 months of interview), CESR or European Community Rights
- Broad experience in management of palliative care patients in all settings
- Evidence of continuing medical education
- Advanced communication skills
- Clinical judgement based on evidence‑based practice
- Higher degree (MSC, MD or PhD)
- Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians
- Previous consultant level clinical experience
- Teaching qualification (PGCE) or experience in educational supervision
- Publication of audit results or service improvement experience
- Research track record with funding and publication
- Understanding of NHS management structures and clinical governance
- Full independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
- Assessment and management of clinical risk
- Understanding of clinical audit principles
