We are seeking a Consultant Cardiac Surgeon to join our dynamic and dedicated clinical team. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced surgeon who is passionate about delivering high-quality patient care, advancing clinical excellence and contributing to the continued development of our surgical services.
The job is intended to be a full time (11.75 PA) post in Cardiac Surgery at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital. Whilst no particular surgical specifics are stipulated, the potential for sub-specialty development in line with future advances and requirements of the Trust will be strongly supported.

OverviewMain duties of the job The following work pattern should be regarded as provisional; the exact weekly timetable undertaken by the appointee will depend on operational issues within the Trust. The appointee is expected to work flexibly.

The weekly pattern and specific weekly timetable are subject to operational requirements of the Trust and may be adjusted through the job planning process. On-call for Cardiac Surgery is a 1 in 10 rota with a category A frequency payment. The draft job plan is outlined under the terms and conditions section.
There is a significant commitment to research and audit and a training commitment to resident doctors. The trust supports the annual appraisal process and routine GMC revalidation for all consultants, and all consultants undergo an annual job plan. The appointee will be expected to work flexibly based on the needs of the Surgical Division and the Trust. Full mentorship / preceptorship will be provided to the successful candidate.
About usThe Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provides medical and surgical adult cardiothoracic services to the people of Merseyside, North Wales, Isle of Man, parts of Lancashire and Cheshire; this catchment area has a population of approximately 2.9 million people.
The unit is one of the largest of its kind in the country. Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital is configured to perform up to 2,200 heart procedures and 1,500 thoracic procedures, including around 700 major thoracic operations. The full range of services for adult cardiothoracic surgical patients (except for transplantation) is provided. The thoracic aortic aneurysm service provides a comprehensive service with annual activities of 150-180 major aortic cases;
a dedicated on-call service is provided by this group.

The successful candidate will have full secretarial support, a personal computer (training available if required) and office accommodation in line with other consultants in the unit.
