University Hospitals of Liverpool Group (ULHG) is inviting applications for a Consultant in Diabetes and Endocrinology at Aintree University Hospital. This role supports our strategic aim to enhance consultant and multidisciplinary capacity across diabetes and endocrinology services. Join a dynamic, innovative department in a leading acute teaching hospital, contributing to both inpatient and outpatient care. Opportunities exist to develop services in areas such as diabetic foot, antenatal diabetes, insulin pumps, and transition care.

The post is based at Aintree University Hospital, with collaborative work across primary care, community teams, and academic partners. Applicants must have full GMC registration, MRCP(UK) (or equivalent), and be on the Specialist Register (or within 6 months of CCT). We welcome applications from both new consultants and experienced clinicians, including those seeking flexible working. Informal enquiries and site visits are encouraged.

• Provide inpatient and outpatient care for diabetes and endocrine patients, including complex cases.
• Lead ward rounds and manage emergencies, participating in the on‑call rota.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver holistic care.
• Provide specialist care in areas such as diabetic foot, antenatal diabetes, insulin pump therapy, and supervise specific clinics.
• Teach medical students and healthcare professionals; supervise trainees; participate in educational activities such as journal clubs and case discussions.
• Lead clinical audits, engage in research, and contribute to clinical governance activities.
• Contribute to service development and improvement initiatives; participate in strategic planning and transformation.
• Work closely with primary care, community teams, and academic partners; attend multidisciplinary meetings.

• Full GMC registration.
• MB ChB or MBBS (or equivalent) and MRCP(UK).
• Full GMC licence to practise; eligibility for Specialist Register in Diabetes & Endocrinology or Group Internal Medicine.

• Understanding of NHS management structures and Clinical Governance principles.
• Hands‑on clinical experience in diabetes and endocrinology with independent consultant practice standard.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant patient information systems.
• Experience in medical education and training of junior staff.
• Capability to participate in management and leadership activities within an NHS Foundation Trust.

• Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians.
• Higher degree (MD or PhD).
• Sub‑specialty interest in diabetes or related fields.
• Post‑CCT fellowship in diabetes & endocrinology.
• Research involvement with publications.

10 PA job plan: 8.5 direct clinical care (DCC) and 1.5 supporting professional activities (SPA). Office, IT facilities, and administrative support provided. Annual appraisal and revalidation expected. Full‑time 12‑month fixed‑term contract.
