Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Registered Dental Therapist to work in the Restorative Department of Liverpool Dental Hospital for one day per week (7.5 hours), preferably a Thursday but this can be discussed post holder will work under supervision, carrying out active treatment for patients to prescriptions provided by Dental Consultants and Specialist Teams from the Restorative Dentistry Department.
Key Responsibilities- Provision of periodontal therapies, direct restorations, baseline records and photographs, bleaching and composite modifications of malformed teeth within Trust policies, procedures and guidelines for patients in priority groups such as Cleft Lip and Palate, developmental defects of enamel and dentine, and oral cancer.
- Providing specialist care and contributing to the clinical management of patients, collaborating with consultants to improve patient care.
- Maintaining high standards of clinical care, referencing relevant research and evidence‑based practice; maintaining personal standard of practice and keeping up to date with CPD and appraisal protocols.
- Ensuring patients meet oral health standards for ongoing treatment in relation to the patient’s prescription or treatment plan.
- Discussing and informing patients of indications for ongoing treatment, including risks, benefits, possible additional procedures and the level of cooperation required.
- Assessing, planning and implementing specialist care treatment plans in consultation with the Consultant & Specialist team.
- Identifying patients’ individual needs and beliefs when formulating a management plan, ensuring a holistic approach to care in collaboration with the Consultant, Specialist team, patients and their families as appropriate.
- Promoting health education and health promotion.
- Utilising risk assessment skills to identify potential for damage to oral health and soft tissues of the oral cavity.
- Acting effectively in an emergency situation to ensure safety of patients.
- Referencing the JDPS for the full list of duties.
The JDPS specifies that this role is for both Restorative and Special Care Dentistry; however, the successful candidate will only be required to work within the Restorative Department.
