OverviewThe Cross Country Coach is responsible for instructing student athletes in the fundamental skills, strategies and physical training necessary for individual and team success, while promoting sportsmanship, character development and personal growth.
Responsibilities- Recommend and implement athletic policies approved by LVJUSD and ensure staff adherence.
- Know and apply system, state and league regulations; interpret and enforce them for staff.
- Serve as a role model in instruction and conduct; supervise a staff of coaches with oversight from the athletic director and principal.
- Coordinate scheduling, transportation and event logistics for tournaments and practices; ensure facility times are respected.
- Maintain documentation for physical examinations, parental consent and athlete eligibility; safeguard equipment and facilities.
- Manage student-athlete development, including discipline, academic progress, safety, injuries, and emergency procedures.
- Provide staff development through clinics, conferences and meetings; delegate duties and evaluate staff effectiveness.
- Foster public relations with parents, boosters and the community; communicate schedules and results to media as needed.
- Ability to organize and supervise a total sports program.
- Previous successful coaching experience in the assigned sport (major sports preferred).
- Substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport and a commitment to ongoing learning and professional growth.
- Ability to model ethical behavior and promote good sportsmanship, self-discipline, and character development among student athletes.
This position may require extended time and associated responsibilities typical of athletic coaching roles. The role reports to the Principal and works with the athletic director and school staff to support a safe and successful athletic program.
