Golf Maintenance Second Assistant/Foreman
Position Summary: The Foreman/Second Assistant Superintendent plays a critical leadership role in daily course maintenance, supporting the Superintendent and First Assistant in managing operations, supervising staff, and implementing agronomic programs. This is a hands‑on role with strong growth potential toward becoming a Golf Course Superintendent.
Essential Duties- Supervise and train maintenance staff
- Schedule daily assignments and monitor quality control
- Assist in chemical and fertilizer applications (calculations, calibration, application, recordkeeping)
- Irrigation troubleshooting, repair, programming, and hand‑watering
- Scouting and monitoring turf health, pests, and diseases
- Operate a wide range of turf maintenance equipment
- Coordinate with clubhouse staff on course conditions
- Fertilizer and pesticide applications, including calculations, calibration of equipment, applying, and record keeping
- Requires the ability to stand or kneel for potentially long periods of time throughout the workday.
- Manual dexterity and vision sufficient to operate a computer terminal for potentially long periods of time without experiencing abnormal hand, wrist, or eye strain.
- Hearing sufficient to understand conversations, both in person and on the telephone.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
- A minimum of 2 years golf course experience.
- 2-4 year degree or certification in turfgrass management or related field.
- Valid California QAL/QAC or the ability to obtain within 90 days of employment.
- Must understand the game of golf and be knowledgeable of the principles, practices, and methods of golf course management.
- Irrigation experience (troubleshooting, repairs, programming, watering).
- Experience safely applying and monitoring chemical and fertilizer applications.
- Ability to operate equipment associated with golf course maintenance.
- Project management experience.
- Strong leadership skills including the ability to effectively motivate a team.
- Strong work ethic and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated passion for the industry with a mindset of someday becoming a superintendent.
- Spanish speaking is a plus, or ability to communicate in Spanish with the team.
- Must have excellent interpersonal skills, effectively managing personnel while fostering an atmosphere of teamwork, understanding, cooperation and productivity.
- Must have demonstrated competence and organizational skills to successfully coordinate activities with multiple components requiring independent follow‑thru and attention to detail.
- An optimistic person who thrives on challenges, leads by example, and readily adapts in a competitive business environment.
Supports environmental sustainability by utilizing water responsibly. Since this job deals with irrigation and sprinklers, we must make sure only the amount needed is used. We monitor the usage by adjusting minutes of water daily on our computer systems. We must not only care for the environment but also for the animals that inhabit this property. We make sure our fertilization does not run nitrogen into the lakes or streams.
