Position: Construction Management/Engineering Intern (STRIVE Program)

Job Overview

APTIM is seeking energetic and motivated interns to join our Nuclear Facility Decommissioning team. The internship program offers Graduate and Undergraduate students the chance to apply skills gained in an academic setting to challenging projects and meaningful work assignments. Interns will be paired with experienced mentors and will work in a fast‑paced environment, gaining broad experience in various aspects of nuclear facility decommissioning.

This is a temporary position.

The STRIVE Internship Program is a 12‑week experience running from May 18, 2026 through August 7, 2026
. Interns must be fully available during Week 1 (May 18–22) and Week 12 (August 3–7). Week 12 includes company‑paid travel to an APTIM office (location to be announced) for an end‑of‑internship celebration. Interns are expected to minimize absences; the program observes Memorial Day (May 25, 2026) and Independence Day (July 3, 2026, observed).

Key Responsibilities /Accountabilities
  • Collect and interpret engineering and characterization data in support of work planning.
  • Apply theory and engineering experience to planning and design.
  • Develop specifications and perform detailed engineering.
  • Prepare and supervise the preparation of reports, estimates, plans, and specifications.
  • Assist with scheduling, conducting, and documenting meetings.
  • Use best practices and knowledge of internal/external business issues to improve products or services.
  • Conduct field activities for investigation or inspection with senior personnel.
  • Apply knowledge and skills to a wide range of standard and nonstandard situations.
Basic Qualifications
  • Attending an accredited educational institution, pursuing a degree in Construction Management, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field with an interest in facility decommissioning, demolition, safety, and waste management.
  • Minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA with at least 60 hours of coursework completed.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have experience with MS Office software.
  • Excellent critical thinking, analytical, and communication skills.
  • May be subject to random drug and substance abuse screening.
  • Must be a self‑starter, excel in time management, and work well under pressure.
  • Must be available to work in various settings such as office or remote, depending on needs.
  • US citizenship is required.
Field Work (50% of time)

Collection and interpretation/evaluation of facility radiological, chemical, and engineering data. Perform walkdowns of work activities to support work planning. Participate in pre‑job briefs and mock‑up activities. Must be able to work in potentially adverse conditions, including cold and hot environments, and lift 30–50 pounds individually and possibly heavier items as part of a team. Must comply with HSE guidelines.

Office Work (50% of time)

Work in a cooperative small group setting with various employees at various levels, operating under HSE guidelines. A typical office day may include processing and reviewing scientific or engineering data using a computer, preparing work documents or reports, and ordering supplies.

As of the date of this posting, a good‑faith estimate of the current pay range for this position is $25–$30.12 per hour. Compensation depends on several factors including experience, education, key skills, geographic location of the position, client requirements, external market competitiveness, and internal equity among other employees at APTIM.
