North Wind Services is actively seeking individuals who can contribute to national security within the science, technology, and engineering fields as part of our supplemental labor team at vital federal research and development installations supporting the Department of Energy. NWS has an established history of contributing to the success of their customer's mission. Qualified applicants must be a US citizen, at least 18 years of age, and able to meet pre-employment requirements including any required physicals, drug screen, and/or background investigation to satisfy clearance requirements from the Department of Energy.
Successful candidates will be employees of NWS, a premier government contractor charged with employing highly motivated and well-qualified personnel who can advance the missions of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, CA. Though employed by NWS, the employee will take day-to-day direction from technical personnel employed directly by the research laboratories. Pay, benefits, Human Resource, and Employment Management functions are provided by NWS.
The Global Security N Program has a part-time opening for a Nuclear Radiochemist. The successful candidate will conduct research in the analysis and interpretation of radio chemical data from nuclear explosions. You will work with a multi-disciplinary team to develop new capabilities for post-detonation nuclear forensics.
Essential Duties- Assist in the analysis and interpretation of radio chemical data from nuclear events.
- Support research to advance new capabilities for interpreting radio chemical data from nuclear explosions.
- Participate in experiments to acquire data that will test new research concepts.
- Work independently on complex technical tasks requiring in-depth data analysis and develop unique technical solutions.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams of scientists and engineers.
- Communicate results to internal and external sponsors via written technical reports and oral presentations.
- Ability to travel on an occasional basis and interact / collaborate with colleagues in conference or training settings.
- Leverage subject matter expertise in nuclear forensics to support training and operational preparedness, including instruction for new debris diagnostic analysis focused on post-detonation response.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Ability to maintain a U.S. DOE Q level security clearance which requires U.S. Citizenship.
- MS or PhD in chemistry, physics, geochemistry, or nuclear engineering, or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Experience in purification of trace metals or radio nuclides from complex matrices for nuclear data or environmental measurements.
- Experience in use of nuclear decay counting detectors and/or other instruments and methods for quantitative analysis of inorganic analytes.
- Demonstrated success in developing and executing training, policy, and operational capabilities for domestic and international response units.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Advanced understanding of the national Post-Detonation TNF mission and familiarity with technical and operations partners.
- Extensive experience collaborating with interagency science, technology, and engineering communities, including performing technical assessments of emerging TNF-related science and technologies.
- Expert knowledge of nuclear forensics and characterization techniques with application to forensics related issues.
- Extensive experience in leading technical assessments and analyses of nuclear weapons concerns and threats.
- Extensive experience supporting exercises and operations under DOE, DOD, and FBI strategic frameworks.
Pre-Placement Medical Exam: A job-related pre-placement medical examination may be required.
Pre-employment drug test: External applicants selected for this position will be required to pass a post offer, pre-employment drug test.
Anticipated Government Clearance Level: Q and SCI (position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold multiple citizen ships (U.S. and another country), you may be required to renounce your non-U.S. citizenship before a DOE L or Q clearance will be processed/granted.
