OverviewMission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) manages and operates the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). Our mission is to ensure the security of the United States and its allies by providing high‑hazard experimentation and incident response capabilities through operations, engineering, education, field, and integration services and by acting as environmental stewards to the site’s Cold War legacy.

The successful candidate will be a member of a multidisciplinary team in a collaborative environment at the Livermore Operations office of the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS), managed and operated by Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS). The selected candidate will report to the Livermore Operations Diagnostic Engineering Manager.
- Lead two separate groups:
- Diagnostic Field Services group – technicians and technologists supporting engineers and scientists to solve complex National Security Enterprise (NSE) problems. Work occurs in laboratories and field locations including target area support at the National Ignition Facility (NIF), diagnostic calibration for the NIF, diagnostic development, and various fieldwork activities at LLNL and the NNSS.
- Production Engineering group – computer aided design (CAD) and mechanical engineering experts primarily working at Livermore Operations with some staff deploying systems to field locations. Projects include work at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), Sandia National Laboratory (SNL), Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), and the NNSS.
- Team management: attach team members to value‑added projects, develop staff skills, and participate in hiring new staff.
- Recruit, select, orient, and train employees; maintain a safe, secure, and legal work environment; develop growth opportunities.
- Communicate job expectations; plan, monitor, and appraise job results; coach, counsel, and discipline employees; develop, coordinate, and enforce policies, procedures, and productivity standards.
- Maintain quality service by enforcing standards, analyzing and resolving quality and customer service problems, identifying trends, and recommending system improvements.
- Keep professional and technical knowledge current through workshops, publications, and professional societies.
- Create an environment where employees feel safe to raise issues, empowered to address issues, and supported to resolve issues.
- Serve as an individual technical contributor in addition to functional supervision.
- Responsible for earned value (EV) work package management on NNSS technical projects located at Livermore Operations.
- Technical responsibilities in CAD, automation, or other engineering support tasks.
- Travel to other MSTS sites occasionally.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent training and experience, plus a minimum of 11 years of related and progressively responsible experience.
- Desired skills and knowledge: computerized data acquisition, computer aided design, test and measurement technology, computer control instrumentation.
- Desired skills in product data management (PDM) software and configuration management (CM) implementation for design teams.
- Planning and organizational skills and initiative.
- Ability to handle deadlines and multiple tasks, and demonstrate leadership qualities with an emphasis on continuous improvement and team building.
