The Assistant Pre-School Teacher supports and works with the Pre-School Teacher in daily class routines which include, but are not limited to, developing and delivering curriculum and learning programs designed to engage and educate the children.
Duties and Responsibilities:- Reports to the assigned schedule on time.
- Collaborates with the Pre-School Teacher on daily curriculum and schedules; structures a developmentally fitting educational experience in the classroom using methods such as storytelling, games, and other age-appropriate activities.
- Together with the Pre-School Teacher, manages the classroom, lessons, and sessions including all out-of-classroom activities such as play, breaks, meals; and is accountable for all children in the pre-school program(s) under his/her supervision.
- Speaks and listens to children in his/her care with respect, and handles behavior issues age appropriately.
- Supports and participates in daily schedules, routines, and procedures as designed by the Pre-School Teacher and/or the Director.
- Communicates the child’s concerns and needs to the Pre-School Teacher and/or the Director.
- Establishes and enforces rules of behavior and discipline suitable for children.
- Provides appropriate supervision for children at all times including when these children are combined with other classes.
- Helps maintain a clean and tidy classroom.
- Adheres to safety, health, and sanitation procedures.
- Assists in maintaining inventory for classroom materials and supplies.
- Develops and maintains positive relationships with children and parents (e.g. speaks and listens to children and parents with respect).
- Supports and enforces safety not only for children but to parents, teachers, and staff.
- Maintains legal ratios as prescribed by the School.
- If needed, performs diaper changes and assists in potty training.
- Completes all required training (e.g. safety, professional development) on time as assigned by the Director and/or HR.
- Participates in staff collaboration meetings.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor and/or the Director.
- Has a professional demeanor, a team player, flexible, and able to adjust to changing schedules and work situations.
- Must have at least 12 ECE/CD core units. Without the nearly completed 12 ECE/CD core units, must be currently enrolled towards completion of the required units.
- 1-3 years of pre-school teaching experience or a combination of education and relevant pre-school teaching experience.
- Must be able to bend, lift up to 50 lbs, and reach above head (reasonable accommodations may be provided).
- Must complete the following required training:
Mandated Reporter, Sexual Harassment Prevention, Food Handling, CPR and First Aid. - Must pass background/fingerprint clearances including reference checks.
- Clear health screening and TB Test results.
