Overview

UDR is seeking qualified candidates for a Mechanical Superintendent opportunity in Livermore, CA at a Department of Defense (DOD) project site.

Work Location: Livermore, CA

Number of positions: 2

Description: Oversee Mechanical and HVAC equipment installs in Livermore, CA (DOD). No per diem for this role.

The Mechanical Superintendent is responsible for field operations on the assigned project(s) to achieve safe, timely, and profitable completion. Plans, organizes, and supervises construction work for an assigned area, and manages the mechanical-related activities of subcontractors to ensure contractual completion and optimize job progress.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee the following project work activities: piping (carbon, stainless steel, and alloy), rotating equipment, stationary equipment, structural steel, rigging, piping and structural welding, insulation and heat tracing, hydrostatic testing, non-destructive examination techniques, fire protection, and coatings.
  • Supervise construction efforts, including safety, productivity of crafts, efficient use of materials and equipment, materials management, scheduling, engineering, and contractual performance of the project.
  • Ensure subcontractor contractual compliance on designated mechanical construction activities.
  • Build effective client and subcontractor relationships. Interface with client representatives, A/E representatives, and other contractors.
  • Collaborate with project management to develop and implement project procedures, working documents, and standards.
  • Authorize purchase requisitions, field design change requests, etc., under supervision of Construction Manager and Project Manager.
  • Provide overall project safety oversight. Review and audit site-specific safety documentation, including Pre-Task Analyses (PTAs) and Task Safety Observations (TSOs).
  • Complete daily field reports and document construction progress with daily photos.
  • Assess future work activities and identify concerns using subcontractors’ 3-week look-ahead.
  • Develop marked-up and as-built drawings to produce record-set documents; answer RFIs with assistance from Assistant Project Manager or Field Engineer.
  • Direct and manage subcontractors to meet the project schedule; track progress on installed quantities and work hours.
  • Verify material deliveries meet specifications and are stored properly; ensure required preventative maintenance or temporary heating is performed by the subcontractor (coordinated with Materials Manager).
  • Coordinate with QA/QC Manager to verify welders are qualified on site.
  • Witness equipment setting and alignment.
  • Walk down all systems before, during, and after hydrostatic testing to verify compliance with drawings and specs; sign off on completed system testing and restoration.
  • Develop punch lists for items out of compliance or not completed.
  • Verify the most current drawing revisions are used in the field.
  • Understand and execute project scope and changes; ensure field change orders are executed.
  • Oversee craft supervision and project staffing as required.
  • Provide oversight of project site material and tool management.
  • Responsible for daily field construction of the project in accordance with company policies, procedures, and requirements.
  • Supervise and direct daily construction activities, subcontractor coordination, and code/specification compliance.
  • Read, interpret, and understand isometric drawings, structural drawings, and P&.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and comply with all company policies and standards.
Requirements
  • Bachelor Degree and 7 years construction management experience or craft supervision experience on mechanical projects, or
  • Associate Degree and 9 years construction management experience or craft supervision experience on mechanical projects, or
  • High School Diploma/GED and 11 years' construction management experience or craft supervision experience on mechanical projects. Required
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with a strong safety background.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Suite.
  • Must be able to meet company driving requirements.
