SUMMARY

This position involves providing leadership and direction to the Unit Child Care Program which includes responsibility for direct supervision of direct care Staff, the Unit Secretary and other personnel assigned by the Program Director II. The Unit Director works in close contact with other program staff and with personnel from other Youth Ranches programs in order to coordinate, plan and direct the work of the teams in a smooth functioning manner in the best interest of the youth, their families and the agency.

The Unit Director is responsible for developing esprit de corps among the youth and staff in a Unit for the benefit of all concerned. The Unit Director is directly responsible to the Program Director II. This position is not eligible for overtime pay.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties and responsibilities are the various types of work performed in this position. Other duties and responsibilities may also be assigned.

  • Develop and hold accountable assigned staff through orientation, discipline, training, and evaluation.
  • Coordinated and handles communications related to daily schedules, campus activities, work program, and off campus activities by including direct care staff, and guardian and collateral agencies.
  • Provides leadership and direction to the Unit by being a sound risk manager and assessing, communicating, and teaching group concepts.
  • Reviews and maintains case records on a regular basis in order to ensure they are up to date and complete. Completes and distributes reports and surveys as applicable to the Unit throughout the year.
  • Enhance Unit efficiency and effectiveness by regularly reviewing the day to day practices, procedures, and expectations of each staff and cottage with the Unit.
  • Presents Youth Ranches programs and policies to other agencies and visitors; provides tours during special events and oversees communications regarding donations to youth.
  • Recruits, screens, and supervises volunteers, in consultation with the Program Director II, in a manner that provides maximum benefit to youth and is in compliance with state laws and licensing criteria.
  • Keeps Program Director II informed of Unit activities and assumes the duties of the Program Director II in the absence of such and as assigned.
  • Participates in providing on-call duties for non-business hours.
  • Reviews case files and interviews and assess potential candidates for the residential youth services program.
  • Maintains an ongoing individual relationship with each youth assigned to the Unit. Is alert to symptoms of social, behavioral, learning and emotional problems. Works as an integral part of the clinical team as it relates to youth development.
  • If maintaining a therapeutic caseload, provides individual, group, and family supportive therapy as deemed appropriate in the youth’s individual treatment plan; clearly documents Medicaid billing on a weekly basis for each assigned youth and participates in a minimum of 4 hours of clinical supervision per month with a licensed practitioner to enhance clinical skills development.
  • Ensure youth’s moral spiritual character development is enhanced through exposure and education in the cottage.
  • Ensures the procurement and purchasing of items for areas of responsibility in accordance with agency purchasing policy and procedures.
  • Participates in the duty rotation to ensure on-site supervision is available at all times.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college in social work or closely related human services field and two years’ experience is required. Preference will be given to qualified candidates with a Master’s degree and two years of group childcare experience.

Pay: $51,000 / Annually
