Position Objective
:
Under the close supervision of the Masters Head Swim Coach, this position is responsible for instructing program participants in proper development of competitive strokes and skills. The job may require shifts ranging from early morning to evening hours and weekends.

Rate: $20.75/hour

Essential Functions- Assist the Head Masters Coach in the administration of a comprehensive swimming program by providing a quality competitive environment to train and motivate athletes in the sport of swimming; instruct swim team participants on swimming stroke techniques, race and practice strategy, and physical training regimens.
- Develop a single and season-long practice and competition plan in conjunction with the Head Masters Coach.
- Plan, direct, and supervise practices; create varied workouts and be able to teach correct competitive strokes through the use of various swimming techniques, drills and games. Develop team motivation. May provide in-water coaching when deemed necessary and appropriate. Masters Coaches are required to be on-deck for the majority of the workout, but especially for the first 15 minutes when they are greeting swimmers and helping with lane placement, etc.
- Assist adult swimmers of all levels to improve their swimming skills and aid them in meeting their personal goals.
- Provide a safe learning environment by educating the participants in safe practices and ensuring all equipment is available, set up, and functioning properly.
- Provide a positive environment; welcome members, answer questions, and mentor potential new members.
- Although coaches may be allowed to swim with the team while coaching, the priority is to coach the team, provide ongoing/regular feedback and stroke/skill improvement and evaluation to all team members.
- Required to deck coach the first 15 minutes (minimum) of each practice.
- Attend and encourage participation for all home and away swim meets, with the focus being on the Annual Masters Fun Meet in the Fall and the State Meet in the Spring.
- Monitor pool activities during swim meets and practices; evaluate individual and team performance, explain techniques and assist with skills improvement. Assist new team members in lane placement, instruction and additional assistance required for them to integrate into the workout.
- Prevent accidents through the enforcement of policies and rules governing the conduct of swimming pool patrons; monitor activities in the facilities for individuals who may need assistance or guidance.
- Dispense all program information and provide updates to participants.
- Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner; provide information within the area of assignment; resolve complaints in an efficient and timely manner. Deal with difficult, uncomfortable, and elevated situations in a professional manner.
- Enter the water to assist persons in distress if needed; notify aquatics staff of emergencies.
- Adhere to facility emergency procedures by analyzing and correcting facility hazards.
- Attend work on a regular, reliable and punctual basis; subs for co-workers when available; is responsible for securing substitutes for shifts unable to work.
- Attend 2 annual coaches meetings to help plan each season and discuss topics pertinent to the coaching staff.
- Communicates with other Master's Coaches through email regarding team matters and scheduling.
- Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
- Six (6) years of competitive swimming in an organized program.
- One (1) year of previous masters coaching experience.
- Possession of current certifications in CPR/AED and First Aid required.
- Possession of current Lifeguarding certification (includes CPR/AED and First Aid) preferred.
Must possess general knowledge of competitive swimming equipment such as pace clocks, lane ropes, instructional tools (i.e.: kickboards, pull buoys).
Working Environment95% of the work is done primarily in hot, humid environment. During summer months, work may be at an outdoor facility and will include exposure to all types of weather. Exposure to chemically treated water for a minimum of 2 hours per day. Must be able to work in an environment with poor acoustics and an array of distractions, i.e. music, weather conditions, etc.
