Applied Research, Rapid Prototyping, and Embedded Systems Principal Electrical Engineer

Position Overview

Because of our work with the defense community, US citizenship is required.

Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) is seeking one or more experienced Principal Electrical Engineers or Principal Program Managers to grow and lead a small group in applied research.

• Novel prototype systems for defense applications across multiple Technology Readiness Levels
• Mechatronic systems with wireless connectivity and real-time embedded processing and control
• Real-time detection, classification and tracking signal processing (land, sea, air, space)
• Machine learning and artificial intelligence implementation on hardware systems (sensors, drones, robots)
• Interdisciplinary R&D with academia, government and private organizations
• Systems engineering and rapid prototyping to realize new concepts

Based in Littleton CO, San Antone TX, Baton Rouge LA, or Bentonville AR. Up to 25% travel (typically Washington DC).

• Lead small teams of researchers, engineers, or technicians
• Attract extramural funding and develop proposals
• Drive technical and business development portfolio in contract research or government research
• Maintain communication with government or commercial sponsors

• M.S. or Ph.D. in electrical engineering, physics, robotics, computer science or related field
• Five or more years in a Principal Scientist/Engineer role
• Recognized expertise in electronics design, mechatronics, computer science, rapid prototyping, signal processing, embedded processing, robotics, systems engineering, automation, aerospace
• High proficiency with Microsoft Office and engineering tools (Circuit design, image processing, signal processing simulation, Solid Works, C/C++)
• Eligible for classified information access
