Responsibilities- Monitors and controls movement within the detention facility by continuously observing cameras within central control; opens and closes doors remotely for authorized personnel as needed.
- Conducts thorough searches of all bags and personal belongings brought in or out of the detention facility to ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
- Utilizes body scanner and hand‑held metal detection equipment to scan all individuals entering the detention facility; follows departmental policy and procedures to ensure the safety of inmates and staff within the facility.
- Receives calls and provides information on inmates and jail policies and procedures to law enforcement, court staff, or the general public; transfers callers as appropriate.
- Monitors communications within the detention facility using the intercom system or hand‑held radios; responds to access requests or communicates security issues.
- Observes and responds to unauthorized movement within the facility using voice commands via intercom; dispatches officers to designated locations as needed.
- Responds to emergency situations using the public address system, radio communications devices, and telephones; dispatches internal emergency assistance or requests outside emergency assistance as needed.
- Maintains a log of all incidents and emergency occurrences within the facility.
- Monitors door, fire, and emergency alarms; identifies the type of alarm and responds according to departmental policies and procedures.
- Utilizes cameras and radios to verify individuals requesting access to the sallyport; upon verification, allows or denies entry.
- Maintains a computerized log of personnel on duty, all breaks taken, and the relief personnel for each shift.
- Ensures the computerized roster of inmates housed within the facility is accurate each shift; enters movement to/from the facility as needed.
- Coordinates with deputies to complete inmate headcounts three times each shift; verifies totals provided by deputies against inmate roster to ensure accuracy; requests recounts as needed.
- Maintains and utilizes facility blueprints as required in emergency situations, i.e. evacuation systems and routes.
- Manages and maintains the key lockbox, including duplicate, operational, and emergency key sets; conducts key inventory at the start and end of each shift; documents the issuance and return of all facility keys during shift.
- Receives non‑emergency calls from the public; gathers information to dispatch the appropriate response within the units.
- Connects callers to the appropriate person or office as necessary; may dispatch deputies as the need arises.
