Brief Description
The RN in Interventional Radiology practices within the professional boundaries established by the Board of Nursing in assessing patients’ needs, administering physician-prescribed treatments, teaching patients and family members about their disease state and the corresponding treatments and side effects, counseling of patients and family members when appropriate and assisting the physician in the overall care of the patients.

SpecificJob Duties And Responsibilities
- Reviews the patient’s electronic medical records once a procedure is cleared by the interventional radiologist.
- Ensures the essential labs are obtained prior to procedure.
- Provides on-site patient care to all patients, including coordination of care with physician, other staff members and ancillary services when needed.
- Responsible for starting intravenous catheters and infusion ports. Administers medicines, monitors vital signs and assists patients with any personal needs.
- Provides patient teaching on all new patients regarding disease, treatment information and available support services and counseling options as indicated.
- Communicates to the Radiologist the status of the patient’s medical status (healthiness or unhealthiness) to undergo a radiologic procedure.
- Administers intravenous fluids, monitors vital signs, monitors patients, and cardiac/pulse oximeters.
- Transports patients to and from procedures.
- Administers/evaluates new and existing programs/protocols.
- Maintains accurate patient charts/records and document nursing actions and functions.
- Instructs patients, families, caregivers, and nurses on patient care.
- Active participant in the imaging department, working as a team member; assisting other staff members with additional projects or assignments as delegated.
- Provides on-site patient care to all patients, including coordination of care with physician, other staff members and ancillary services when needed.
Specific Duties
- Coordinates communication between clinics/Schedulers and IVR physicians/nurses.
- Coordinates preoperative consultation with interventional radiologist on all chemo embolization’, kyphoplasty’s, angiograms, ablations and any other procedure that interventional radiologist deems necessary.
- Coordinates with social service/nutrition for all supplies that a patient will need at home.
- Triages telephone calls, resolves patient issues and concerns, reviews problems with physician and take appropriate action.
- Coordinates patient care activities with homecare or other ancillary services.
- Maintains hematology and oncology expertise.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of biotherapy, chemotherapy and infusion therapy drugs and their potential side effects.
- Conducts initial workup of new clinic patients, H&P (history and physical).

Supervisory ResponsibilityNone
Education, Certification, Licensure, Registration- Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
- Associate’s degree or equivalent from two-year college program or technical school or nursing diploma.
- Bachelor’s degree, preferred.
- Current registered nurse licensure in Arkansas.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Moderate sedation certification required within 30 days (Surgery Center only).
Skills And Abilities
- Minimum 2 years of interventional radiology, Cath lab, or procedural experience, preferred.
- Experience in an intensive care or emergency department, preferred.
- Excellent computer and other basic office equipment skills.
- Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instruction.
