The Unit Customer Service Specialist / Secretary carries out secretarial duties related to the smooth functioning of their assigned nursing unit. This role includes the following responsibilities:
- Greet new and existing patients upon their arrival to the unit.
- Provide a welcome round to the hospital for each patient.
- Schedule patient appointments.
- Answer call lights promptly and courteously.
- Ensure all team members respond to call lights in a timely manner (less than 2 minutes).
- Organize and maintain patient charts.
- Review test and labs to ensure all are collected and completed in a timely manner.
- Ensure all staff have locators and that they are working promptly.
- Ensure all physician (MD) consults are called.
- Order necessary items for the department.
- Complete work orders for equipment repairs and/or maintenance issues.
- Stock all areas with needed supplies.
- Complete an EPIC workflow: admission and discharge.
- Maintain a clean workspace free of clutter.
- Wipe area down each shift.
- Maintain rovers and verify all are accounted for each shift.
- Complete Right of Choice form for Med to Bed.
- Perform direct care rounding on and assisting patients and other duties that are direct patient care duties for 50% of hours worked.
Required:
High school diploma or equivalent. CPR certification within the first 60 days of employment. Fluent in English. Willing to work flexible hours.
Preferred:
Data entry experience and some knowledge of computer programs.
Demonstrates knowledge of medical terminology, self-motivation, and sound judgment in handling patient and visitor inquiries. Possesses strong concentration skills, efficiently prioritizing tasks, adapting to change, and multitasking while performing duties quickly and accurately.
