About the position

As a Laboratory Technician in Training, you will train in preparing histologic slides from tissue sections for microscopic examination and diagnosis by pathologists. Work is performed in accordance with standard laboratory practice under limited supervision.

What you ll do

Clinical Duties

  • Assess tissue adequacy for testing
  • Perform automated immunohistochemical staining
  • Operate and maintain automated IHC stainers (Agilent/Dako, Leica)
  • Prepare reagents, antibodies, buffers, and controls
  • Perform antibody optimization, validation, and troubleshooting
  • Perform quality control checks on materials produced
  • Complete equipment maintenance and QC logs
  • Develop problem-solving skills—determining causes of operating errors and deciding corrective course of action
  • Controlling operations of equipment and systems
  • Monitor and assess performance of self to make improvements or take corrective action
  • Assist in Lab for other duties as assigned
  • Practice safe work procedures while performing job duties
  • Periodically review of work product for compliance with standard operating procedures and applicable workload limits

Administrative Duties

  • Maintenance of Lab logs and tracking sheets
  • Other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • All SOPs must be followed
  • Any discrepancies, errors and/or deviation from the SOPs or Policies must be reported to the Lab Director, Lab Manager, Admin Lead and/or Section Lead
  • Laboratory Standards for Clinical testing must be maintained
You should have:

Education: Bachelor s or Associate s degree from a four- or two-year college or university with at least 12 semester hours biology and chemistry Certification eligible

Experience: Histology-specific and Laboratory Technical skills. Prefer 2 years of lab experience but not required

Computer

Skills:

Proficient in MS Word

Other Requirements: Eligible to sit for the National HT/HTL exam after 1 year of employment

Schedule: Monday-Friday 6:30am-3:30pm
