Position SummaryThe Registered Nurse provides direct patient care to assigned patients in the Emergency Department and Trauma Center. UAMS provides emergency care to greater than 55,000 patients per year. Medical and nursing coverage is delivered by faculty, residents, registered nurses and technicians from the Emergency Medicine Service Line. Educational opportunities exist to obtain ACLS, PALS, and TNCC certifications as well as instructor certifications in these courses.
The Emergency Department aims to achieve 100% of nursing staff becoming Certified Emergency Nurses (CEN) through the Emergency Nurses Association.
- Collect and document assessment data; develop a Plan of Care (POC) per standard.
- Implement POC including medical orders and an interdisciplinary approach; evaluate the progress of patients toward desired outcomes.
- Provide effective patient/family education and discharge planning.
- Administer medications per standard, including drug information to patients/families; act as a resource/support for others.
- Deliver patient care using the principles of the defined nursing modality.
- Delegate care based on UAMS standards, legal and regulatory requirements, the specific job description and individual level of education and training.
- Contribute to a positive work environment that is conducive to clinical education while serving as a resource for student nurses and staff.
- Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program with an Associate's Degree, Nursing Diploma, Bachelor of Nursing, or Master of Nursing.
- Valid RN License.
- 1 year of Registered Nursing experience.
- Excellent communication skills, basic computer skills, strong work ethic and accountability.
- Proficiency in BLS, ACLS, TNCC; PALS certification within 6 months of hire.
- 2 or more years of nursing experience with current BLS, CEN or TCRN.
- Constant Physical Activity: Hearing, reading, concentrating, thinking analytically.
- Frequent Physical Activity: Standing.
- Occasional Physical Activity: Bending, sitting, crawling, crouching, kneeling, stooping, or reaching overhead.
- Lift/Carry Weight: 11–25 lbs. or more.
- Push/Pull Weight: 100 lbs. or more.
- Physical Environment: Inside medical facility.
- Noise Level: Moderate.
- Visual Requirements: Color discrimination, depth perception, far visual acuity, near visual acuity.
- Hazards: Biological, dust, fumes/gases/odors, radiation, sharp objects/tools.
Commensurate with education and experience.
