Job Duties
The Registered Nurse is responsible for providing direct patient care and the provision of other patient services in a clinical setting. Under the direction of the Director and Associate Director, the RN Clinical Expeditor will expedite, prioritize, synchronize and mediate clinical issues which are barriers to discharge and delays in patient care, playing a pivotal role in decreasing barriers, improving patient access and enhancing quality of care.
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
- Valid RN License
- Two (2) years Registered Nursing or case management experience
- Current BLS & ACLS certification
- Excellent communication skills
- Basic computer skills
- Strong work ethics, accountability, and aptitude
- Work experience can be substituted for education
- Master's in Nursing
- Three (3) years Registered Nursing or case management experience
- One (1) year supervisory experience in healthcare
- Certified Case Manager
- Expedites, prioritizes, synchronizes and mediates clinical issues, barriers to discharge, and delays in patient care
- Triages alerts and situational awareness via investigation per the electronic medical record and additional clinical resources
- Communicates and partners with the Associate Directors of Nursing during times of movement prioritization within a specific area/location/nursing unit
- Manages deviations from patient care pathways; resolves bottlenecks, optimizes and prioritizes with support services and a variety of clinical departments
- Provides insight and information and works with Command Center leadership to address patient flow issues
- In concert with Case Management, strategizes and prioritizes needs for long length of stay or complex discharge patients
- Collaborates with Command Center operations, Acute Care leadership, and Quality to identify process improvement strategies, patient length of stay (LOS), trend delays, support quality initiatives, and enhance patient safety
- Defines patient activity triggers and feedback mechanisms to inform operational team members, physician leaders, and administrative teams to mitigate over-capacity situations
- Develops strategies to manage a surge in patient volumes
- Interacts with and assists the public in a professional and friendly manner as needed
- Demonstrates effective communication skills; communicates accurate and complete information; maintains strict confidentiality when necessary
- Demonstrates positive working relationships with co-workers, management team, and ancillary departments; follows the Core Concepts of Patient and Family Centered Care and the Basic Code of Conduct Guidelines
- Assists internal and external stakeholders as needed with exceptional customer service
- Performs other duties as assigned
Employees in this role must be fitted for, capable of donning and performing routine tasks in personal protective equipment (PPE), including N95 masks, Powered Air Purifying Respirators (PAPR) or Controlled Air Purifying Respirators (CAPR).
