Summary of

Job Duties

This posting will be used to fill multiple positions.

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) performs patient care tasks and duties which do not require a license. The PCT is a trained member of the unit based team who supports the on-going delivery of care as identified by the multidisciplinary patient management team.

Qualifications

Required:

  • High School Diploma/GED and successful completion of patient care technician course within 3 months of hire.
  • Must have excellent communication skills, ability to follow oral instructions, basic computer skills, strong work ethics and accountability.
  • Must be able to lift 100 lbs. to waist height.

Preferred:

  • Certification as a nursing assistant or military corpsman.
  • 1 year patient care experience in an acute care setting.
Responsibilities
  • Obtain patient report and maintain ongoing communication with RN regarding patient care/changes in condition.
  • Assist with admission, transfer, and discharge of patients.
  • Transport patients to other areas of the hospital as directed.
  • Carry out the Plan of Care for Patient using a Multidisciplinary Approach as delegated by Team Leader.
  • Communicate effectively with other team members to facilitate patient care.
  • Accept directions from RNs and team members.
  • Follow through on delegated patient care activities.
  • Provide appropriate grooming/oral hygiene and comfort measures and assist patients with activities (ambulation, up in chair, turn and reposition).
  • Document all patient care activities/tasks, vital signs, ADL, wave tests, I&O’s accurately and timely and per unit and department standards.
  • Assist patients and visitors with information and/or solutions to problems.
  • Serve as resources person to support department members in performance of duties.
  • Notify appropriate staff members of problems requiring prompt intervention.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
Additional Information

All new Patient Care Technicians are required to complete 5 weeks of training Monday - Friday 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM after being hired.

Employees in this role must be fitted for, capable of donning and performing routine tasks in personal protective equipment to include N95 masks, Powered Air Purifying Respirators (PAPR) or Controlled Air Purifying Respirators (CAPR).

Occasional Physical Activity: Sit, Bend, crawl, crouch, kneel, stoop, reach overhead, Taste or Smell.

Lift/Carry Weight: 100 lbs. or more.

Push/Pull Weight: 100 lbs. or more.

Physical Environment: Inside medical facility. Noise level:
Moderate. Visual requirements:
Near Visual Acuity, Far Visual Acuity, Color Discrimination, Depth Perception, Peripheral Vision.

Hazards: Biological, Chemical, Electrical, Radiation, Sharp Objects/Tools, Dust.

Salary

Commensurate with education and experience.
