Summary:
Responsible for identifying principal and secondary diagnoses, and procedures on hospital accounts with extensive knowledge of medical terminology, ICD-9-CM, ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT coding goals; capitalize on opportunities and manage associated coding and coding outcome risks. Assists with helping to set priorities as appropriate; takes initiatives based on knowledge, priorities and goals. The Inpatient Coder II will work with the coding team to help with improving the accuracy, integrity, and quality of coded patient data.
Will help to ensure minimal variation in coding practices and improve the quality of physician documentation, within the body of the medical record to support code assignments. Verifying and maintaining the accuracy standards, as well as all data abstraction and data entry to support all of the regulatory and coding compliance requirements, including core measures and hospital statistics. Understanding of coding ethics and compliance.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
Other information:
Minimum of 3-4 years of progressive coding experience in Coding and/or HIM preferred. CCS, RHIT, or RHIA required. Ability to obtain CCS within 1 year of hire date. Detailed knowledge of revenue cycle functions and relational metrics. Previous experience with 3M, and EPIC is strongly desired. Ability to abstract all required data elements via the 3M 360 Encoder and EPIC abstracting module for all patient visits.
