Summary:
Medical Technologists provide information for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease by conducting medical laboratory tests, procedures, and analyses with little or no supervision. The Medical Technologist's job includes preparing the samples for examination, using automated equipment and specialized instrumentation, performing numerous complicated tests simultaneously and accurately interpreting the results in a timely manner in order to enable the clinician to utilize the data when making treatment decisions.
The job requires multitasking and quick decision making skills. Position requires good judgement and performance under pressure.
- Provide information for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease by conducting medical laboratory tests, procedures, and analyses with minimal supervision.
- Prepare samples for examination, using automated equipment and specialized instrumentation.
- Perform numerous complicated tests simultaneously and accurately interpret results in a timely manner to aid clinical decision making.
- Demonstrate multitasking and quick decision making under pressure.
- Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology from an accredited institution. Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Physics or Biology will be considered and are at the discretion of the hiring manager at the time of application or promotion.
- Registry for Medical Laboratory Technician (ASCP or equivalent) preferred, must be registry eligible.
- Possess language, math and reasoning skills to analyze, interpret, and draw valid conclusions during data collection and procedures.
- Must possess good communication skills with the public and other hospital staff.
- Completes training in at least two rotations within the first six months of employment as required per hospital.
- 2 years experience required.
- Must be willing to work on multiple campuses as assigned.
- Possesses the desired attitude and knowledge for other duties as assigned.
