General Description

To establish and/or maintain the organization's accounting principles, practices, and procedures to ensure the generation of GAAP accrual based financial statements. Carries out all duties while maintaining compliance and confidentiality and promoting the mission and philosophy of the organization. The Senior Accountant must be exceedingly well organized, flexible and able to work in a fast-paced environment and meet multiple simultaneous deadlines, while maintaining a high level of professionalism, ethics and confidentiality.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • General Ledger:
    Develop and implement financial, accounting, payroll, payables, and auditing procedures.
  • Understand all areas of financial and accounting related systems.
  • Maintain cash and accrual basis financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Ensure accurate general ledger coding to support cost center allocations required for GAAP reporting in EAR systems.
  • Document policies, procedures, quality standards, and training for the accounting department.
  • Responsible for timely and accurate issuance of financial statements to support a data driven organization.
  • Develop spreadsheets and/or work papers to support journal entries to the general or subsidiary ledgers.
  • Review, examine and approve entries posted to subsidiary and general ledgers for accuracy and GAAP compliance.
  • Organize and coordinate the month end close process to maintain a timely close.
  • Review monthly financial statements and the general ledger trial balance for accuracy; present to Controller with variance analysis.
  • Review existing procedures for recording financial transactions to determine appropriateness and opportunities to reduce labor costs and increase productivity.
  • Fixed Assets:
    Review the fixed asset system and subsidiary ledger maintained by external accounting firm; ensure compliance with fixed asset policies.
  • Track fixed asset data to monitor transfers, disposals and scrapped equipment in coordination with IT, facilities and other stakeholders.
  • Generate fixed asset reporting for analysis to CFO and stakeholders.
  • Proper accounting for tenant finish-out allowances to comply with GAAP requirements.
  • Financial Reporting:
    Assist in generating accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements and reports.
  • Review Athena Financial Control reports related to bank activity.
  • Understand and maintain the allocation process and the data that drives GAAP/EHR allocations to ensure accurate results.
  • Consolidate financial data for Arkansas Urology and subsidiary companies with intercompany eliminating entries.
  • Provide written monthly analysis of cost trends and special reports as required.
  • Reconciliations:
    Delegate routine general ledger reconciliations to accounting staff; ensure timely and accurate reconciliations through a routine review process.
  • Perform independent research into coding errors and prepare correcting entries as needed.
  • Perform 12-month trend and year-over-year analysis with explanations and benchmarking against industry metrics.
  • Leadership:
    Develop and document quality standards, development tools, and training based on industry best practices; develop staff to function independently while fostering a team environment.
  • Other:
    Provide supporting documentation and assist in completing an annual audit; make recommendations to the Controller for refinement of general ledger accounting procedures; understand data flow across the organization and across multiple entities, data sources and systems.
  • Adhere to all company policies, including OSHA, HIPAA, compliance and Code of Conduct; perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education and Experience: Broad knowledge of accounting, business administration, finance, etc. A four year college degree, plus 3 years related experience and/or training.
