Job Overview
Under general supervision, this position performs various cartographic and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) functions with spatial data, and is accountable for the preparation of data, maps, and related graphics for use in statewide transportation planning needs.

Examples of Work- Create and maintain GIS and mapping databases and work spaces.
- Design GIS and mapping methodologies for studies and ongoing projects within the Transportation Planning and Policy Division.
- Analyze and publish data for planning and project specific purposes.
- Assist in the implementation of standards and methods for performing various GIS and mapping functions.
- Research best practices and alternate methods within the GIS and mapping community for extended learning and for determining potential value for the Department.
- Prepare and update various types of maps and displays as needed.
- Maintain quality control and review published products to ensure standards and accuracy.
The educational equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in GIS, geography or related field that heavily involves using a GIS/mapping platform. Experience in GIS and mapping project design and methodology creation. Knowledge of GIS and mapping software(s), tools, and functionality. Ability to assist in the design and implementation of GIS and mapping methodologies. Knowledge of imagery resources and coordinate systems.
Knowledge of database creation, maintenance, and relationships. Knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Access, Excel and PowerPoint.
