Job Duties

The UA Little Rock Chemistry Program invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Analytical Chemistry. The position is in the Chemistry Program within the School of Physical Sciences at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Our program is dedicated to high‑quality education at both undergraduate and graduate levels. The successful candidate is expected to establish and maintain a strong research program in the field of Analytical Chemistry.

Currently, the program has GC/MS, CMS, UV‑NIR, UV, FT‑IR, NMR, TGA/DSC, and other standard spectroscopic instrumentation as well as high‑level computational and visualization resources for theoretical and experimental research. This position is governed by state and federal laws, and agency/institution policy.

Qualifications Required

Education and/or Experience
  • Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry or related field. All Ph.D. requirements must be completed before employment commences.
Preferred

Education and/or Experience
  • Candidates with postdoctoral research experience will be given preference.
  • Experience in teaching analytical chemistry and laboratory courses at the undergraduate and graduate level is preferred.
  • Demonstrated commitment to evidence‑based teaching practices.
  • Strong record of research accomplishments (publications, grant activity, student mentor).
Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in analytical chemistry, including lecture, laboratory, and special topics.
  • May also teach introductory‑level chemistry courses as needed.
  • Develop and sustain a productive, externally funded research program in analytical chemistry.
  • Mentor undergraduate and graduate students in research.
  • Contribute through service activities, such as participating in school, college, and university‑wide committees, assisting with recruitment efforts, and advising majors.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Committed to students' success as indicated by prior teaching experience and/or mentoring and supervisory experience of employees.
  • Expertise in face‑to‑face and virtual teaching methodologies, including active learning practices.
  • Expertise in Chemistry topics.
  • Knowledge and use of best teaching and safety practices.
  • Knowledge of general laboratory equipment and laboratory practices.
  • General knowledge of common analytical and spectroscopic techniques, including GC/MS, UV‑Vis, FT‑IR, NMR, and related instrumentation.
