The Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System is seeking a full-time board certified or board eligible Endocrinologist with fellowship training in endocrinology/metabolism.
- United States Citizenship:
Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy - Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine
- The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed
- Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia
- Residency Training:
Physicians must have completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification - Approved residencies include: (1) ACGME-accredited, (2) AOA-accredited, or (3) other residencies with at least five years of verified practice in the United States as determined by the local Medical Staff Executive Committee
- Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency programs may be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs) but must be fully licensed and may be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis; PRPs are not independent practitioners
- Additional note:
Surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs - Proficiency in spoken and written English
- Preferred Experience:
Board Certified in Internal Medicine and in Endocrinology - Diabetes and Metabolism; competency in patient care and procedural skills, medical knowledge, practice-based learning and improvement, interpersonal and communication skills, professionalism, and systems-based practice; experience with thyroid ultrasound/thyroid FNA, insulin pumps, and CGM interpretation - Recent (within the past year) full-time experience as a clinical endocrinologist in the United States in both outpatient and inpatient settings
- Experience with teaching and mentoring residents and/or endocrine fellows
- Experience as a VA site director or delegate for endocrinology fellowship
- Experience with VA-funded clinical research and scholarly activity with peer-reviewed publications and oral presentations
- Leadership of a diabetes clinic, center, or program
- Faculty position at an academic institution
Moderate lifting and carrying, pushing, reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, walking, standing, repeated bending, near/far vision, depth perception, color vision, hearing; environmental factors include noise, working with others and with patients, irregular hours, and computer use. Mask wearing may be required.
Duties- Evaluate, diagnose, and manage patients with diabetes and other endocrine disorders in outpatient and inpatient settings
- Perform ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration (FNA) thyroid biopsies as needed
- Perform chart reviews and coordinate with other clinicians regarding patient care issues
- Manage insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitoring
- Provide high quality patient care that is compassionate, appropriate, and effective for health promotion and disease treatment
- Demonstrate interpersonal and communication skills with patients, families, and the health care team
- Participate in quality improvement
- Collaborate with the University Affiliate to education, research, and fellows' development of evidence-based care
- Provide resident and/or trainee teaching and supervision as appropriate
- Oversee care rendered by an advanced practice provider (APP) within your area; work with other specialists to ensure continuous quality care and endocrinology training as requested
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief of Medicine and/or Chief of Endocrinology
- Work Schedule:
Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm; nights and/or weekends on call may be required - Occasional travel may be required for CBOC clinic staffing
- Pay:
Competitive salary with annual performance bonus and regular salary increases - Paid Time Off: 50–55 days per year (26 days annual leave, 13 days sick leave, 11 federal holidays, possible 5 days CME)
