About the Role

This position is the guardian of the customer relationship. The Senior Account Manager is fully responsible for the retention, development, servicing and expansion of assigned accounts, generally large, self-funded groups. Requires frequent contact with clients, vendors, carriers and internal departments both within Benecon and the designated accounts, which at times could include handling sensitive and confidential information. Interactions tend to focus on information gathering and collaborative solution development in a proactive manner.

The Senior Account Manager works independently, receiving only general supervision.

Responsibilities
  • Directly manage group relationships at the decision-maker and end-user levels to ensure client satisfaction and retention standards are met.
  • Manage large, complex, functionally diverse and statewide dispersed client partnerships with consortium members while consistently ensuring 100% client satisfaction.
  • Analyze client’s benefit programs, contribution policy, eligibility, objectives, budgetary constraints, servicing and administrative requirements.
  • Recommend alternate vendor relationships, plan designs, and contribution strategies relative to the client’s objectives.
  • Assume accountability for financial reporting (plan performance reports), compliance issues, client billing, client contracting, etc.
  • Review, understand, and explain actuarial reports to clients so that plan decisions may be based on relevant information.
  • Plan, develop, and coordinate employee communication materials (annual enrollment, newsletters, and publications) to promote understanding, including; written, oral, and electronic forms.
  • Facilitate benefits presentations to all levels of organization upon request.
  • Initiate and promote continuous improvement of procedures, processes, standards and programs to gain cost-effectiveness and efficiency and execute implementation.
  • Mentor junior staff members in a manner that contributes to their professional growth and development.
  • Foster team cohesion and share accountability for successful working relationships within the consulting business.
  • Promote synergy with other departments in order to enhance the unique business model of Benecon.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or Public Administration or related field required or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of 8 years’ experience in employee benefits development and account management in a self-insured environment.
  • Current, valid Pennsylvania resident insurance producer licenses to sell Accident & Health and Life & Fixed Annuities insurance.
  • Group Benefits Associate (GBA) designation preferred. Required within 3 years of hire.
  • Certified Self-Funding Specialist (CSFS) certification preferred. Required within 3 years of hire.

  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships and deliver exceptional customer service (internal and external).
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of health & welfare benefits plans and funding alternatives.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of laws and regulations impacting employee benefits, including but not limited to ADEA, COBRA, FMLA, ERISA, HIPAA.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills.
  • Requires sound judgment, strong decision making and analytical ability and confidence to make difficult decisions.
  • Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and people, at all levels of an organization.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, challenging environment.
  • Must be detail oriented and able to translate big picture ideas into client objectives.
  • Must be skilled in providing exceptional customer service at all times. Positive attitude is a must.
  • Excellent computer skills including Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
