Senior Project Engineer – Multibody Simulation – TRATON R&D US, LLC
TRATON USA R&D Team has a great opportunity for a Senior Project Engineer – Multibody Simulation. With its brands Scania, MAN, International and Volkswagen Truck & Bus, TRATON is one of the world’s leading commercial vehicle manufacturers. Its range comprises trucks, buses, and light‑duy commercial vehicles. At TRATON, we are convinced that the whole can be greater than the sum of its parts.
Together with our brands we have the power to bring about decisive change. With the right resources, tools and guidelines, we support our brands in making the future of transportation more sustainable.
In April 2023, TRATON embarked on an ambitious journey to integrate independent brand Research & Development organizations into a single global TRATON R&D organization. By integrating the capabilities and resources of our brands, we will accelerate the introduction of new technologies and solutions to deliver the most competitive products and solutions to our customers.
As a Senior Project Engineer – Multibody Simulation, you’ll take the lead in advancing vehicle performance through cutting‑edge multibody simulations using ADAMS/Car. Your work will be critical in shaping the ride quality and durability of next‑generation commercial vehicles — from robust heavy‑duty trucks to state‑of‑the‑art electric buses. You’ll be part of the Structural and Multibody Dynamics (MBD) group, where simulation meets real‑world performance.
From structural strength to NVH and dynamic behavior, you’ll contribute to solutions that keep fleets moving reliably across the globe — all while mentoring the next generation of engineering talent and pushing innovation forward.
- Utilize ADAMS/Car to develop and simulate multibody models for commercial vehicles (trucks, tractor‑trailers, buses) including EV platforms.
- Develop and maintain accurate subsystem models for suspension, frame, and body systems, incorporating flex‑body representations where needed.
- Act as a subject‑matter expert in vehicle dynamics and structural durability/load prediction.
- Solve unique and complex problems in ride and durability simulation with minimal supervision.
- Collaborate closely with cross‑functional teams (design, dynamics, test, and analysis) to ensure effective and synchronized product development.
- Lead development and improvement of simulation methods, process flows, and test correlations.
- Guide, mentor, and support junior engineers on the team.
- Create and deliver technical reports and presentations across multiple team levels.
Applicants may meet one of the following qualification pathways (select the appropriate pathway for your situation):
• Bachelor’s degree pathway- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science.
- At least 8 years of experience in product design/development and/or computer science experience.
- At least 1 year leading others in engineer/design activities.
- Master’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science.
- At least 6 years of experience in product design/development and/or computer science experience.
- At least 1 year leading others in engineer/design activities.
- PhD in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science.
- At least 3 years of experience in product design/development and/or computer science experience.
- At least 1 year leading others in engineer/design activities.
- Qualified candidates, excluding current employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis in the United States (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed. This position will not sponsor employment‑related work visas (e.g., H‑1B).
- Background in commercial vehicles (trucks, buses) is highly desirable.
- Expertise in Multibody Dynamics Software, preferably ADAMS (SIMPACK, MeVEA, Open Sim, Open Dynamics Engine, MBDyn, Free Dyn).
- In‑depth understanding of non‑linear system behaviors (e.g., shocks, air springs, rubber mounts).
- Strong experience with truck and automotive product development processes.
- Familiarity with…
