GAI is on the lookout for an experienced Senior Engineer for Substation Protection & Control to lead the design, development, and implementation of cutting-edge protection and control systems for high-voltage substations. This position will play a critical role as a technical leader within our engineering team, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, project requirements, and industry best practices. Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the engineering design and review of protection and control systems for transmission and distribution substations (typically 69kV to 500kV).
- Create and approve protection schemes, including one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, control schematics, and wiring diagrams.
- Integrate protection and control drawings to align with the physical design layout of substations.
- Develop detailed control and relay panel layouts along with the corresponding specifications.
- Create comprehensive design specifications, including the overall bill of materials.
- Design and size auxiliary systems, including AC/DC load centers, batteries, and chargers.
- Determine conduit, cable sizing, and backup generator requirements.
- Travel to various locations for client meetings, project-specific meetings, and site assessments.
- Review junior engineers' designs to ensure adherence to client standards and identify potential gaps in protection elements.
- Document QA/QC reviews, maintain records, and effectively communicate information to the team.
- Manage tasks across multiple projects, consistently aligning with GAI's high standards of project management.
General Characteristics:
- Demonstrates substantial knowledge of principles and practices in the field.
- Independently evaluates and adapts standard techniques and criteria.
- Leads tasks and projects of moderate complexity.
- Develops plans, specifications, and other essential project documents.
- Applies engineering economics, probability, and statistics to analyze risks in complex engineering challenges.
- 6+ Years of Proven Experience.
Education:
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Engineering.
Licensure:
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) License required.
Technical Responsibilities:
- Designs comprehensive projects, systems, components, or processes.
- Prepares detailed plans and specifications for projects.
- Conducts analyses and interprets test data effectively.
- Reviews project documents for conformity and quality assurance.
Project and Task Management:
- Assigns tasks to technical and non-technical staff.
- Plans and coordinates detailed aspects of engineering work.
- Prepares scopes, budgets, and schedules for assignments.
- Assists with proposals to secure professional services or funding for engineering projects.
Management Responsibilities:
- Receives general direction on key objectives and complex problems.
- Mentors junior staff by providing guidance, explaining responsibilities, and reviewing work products.
- Participates in project meetings, presenting key aspects of engineering assignments.
Communication
Skills:
- Ability to effectively communicate with both technical and non-technical audiences.
