Overview

If you want to take your first step into a career supporting young people to achieve their potential then we would love to hear from you.

We have an exciting opportunity to recruit a Youth Development Worker – Tenancy Sustainment, based in Liskeard. Our supported accommodation services are a member of the Foyer Federation, meaning we take a strength‑based approach, called Advantaged Thinking, in all the work we do – encouraging young people experiencing homelessness to aim high, dream big and fulfil their ambitions.

What will my working week look like?

Youth Development Workers work Monday to Sunday, 8am to 10pm on a rolling 4‑week rota, and are part of a multidisciplinary team on site supporting the young people who can live with us. The role includes some element of lone working, but only for short periods of time.

What will I be responsible for doing?
  • First and foremost, you will be providing key worker support to our young people, working through support and action plans, updating risk assessments and risk management plans with them, in order for them to develop the life skills necessary to move on and live independently in the community.
  • As a specialist in tenancy sustainment you will ensure that young people are able to maintain their excluded licence and tenancies and can access services that are appropriate to their needs, strengths and aspirations.
  • You will manage your own diary and caseload, and enjoy interacting with lots of people on a daily basis.
Why would this role stand out?

You will need to take a creative approach to support; adapting your style of communication with each individual to provide a person‑centred approach to help the young people establish and work towards their goals and aspirations.

Qualifications and Experience
  • An ability to engage with a range of young people.
  • A tenacity in seeking the best outcomes for young people.
  • A good understanding of young people’s needs, safeguarding and emotional and mental health issues.
  • An understanding of support needs and support planning.
  • An understanding of risk assessing and risk management.
  • A full, valid driving licence.
Ideal Candidate Traits
  • Innovative and creative in your ways of working.
  • Resilient and flexible in dealing with others.
  • Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Confident in lone working and a good team player.
Role Details

This role is being offered on a full‑time, permanent basis, working 37 hours per week. Bandwidth hours are 8am to 10pm. For further information about this role, and Live West, please view our candidate information pack.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of vulnerable groups, and expect all colleagues to share this commitment. Appointment to the post will be subject to a satisfactory enhanced check via the Disclosure and Barring Service.
