Job Description & How to Apply Below

About the Role

Reed is delighted to present this permanent opportunity for a skilled Mechanical Technician to join a long-established engineering business based in Lisburn.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on mechanical work, traditional fault-finding and using real-world engineering know-how - not ideal for someone who relies on electronic diagnostics.

You'll be repairing, servicing and diagnosing pressure washers, pump systems and small engines, identifying faults through observation, testing, and practical mechanical knowledge.

If you're an "old-school" engineer who can work out why something has failed - not just replace the part - this role is perfect for you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose mechanical faults on pressure washers and pump systems
  • Identify failed components through symptoms such as noise, vibration, leaks, pressure changes, or performance loss
  • Strip, rebuild and test pumps (seals, plungers, valves, unloader valves etc.)
  • Service and repair small petrol and diesel engines
  • Carry out preventive maintenance and complete accurate job sheets
  • Adjust and test pressure/flow settings using gauges and tools
  • Source and identify correct parts using diagrams and manuals
  • Ensure safe working practices around high-pressure systems

What We're Looking For

  • Strong mechanical diagnostic skills - able to work out the root cause of a fault
  • Experience with pumps, pressure washers, small engines, plant machinery, agricultural machinery, compressors, or similar kit
  • Confidence using hand and workshop tools (spanners, torque wrench, pullers, gauges)
  • Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams
  • Practical, methodical, and self-sufficient approach to engineering
  • Good communication and a customer-friendly manner

Desirable (but not essential):

  • Hydraulics experience
  • Basic welding/fabrication
  • Experience with marine, jetting or industrial cleaning equipment

What's on Offer

  • Competitive salary of £36,500 - negotiable for the right candidate
  • Permanent, stable position with an established employer
  • Day shift hours with an early finish on Fridays
  • Supportive, experienced team
  • Opportunities to upskill on specialist equipment

How to Apply

If you have the mechanical background and hands-on diagnostic ability this role requires, Reed would love to hear from you. Please submit your CV via the "Apply" link and suitable candidates will be contacted promptly, or you can call the Branch and speak to Donna
