The Traffic Control Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and removing traffic control devices on active roadway, utility, and construction job sites.

Responsibilities

Traffic Control Setup, Removal, and Maintenance:

  • Setting up and removing traffic control devices in work zones.
  • Setup lane closures, shoulder closures, and road closures.
  • Maintain proper spacing, taper lengths, and sign placement per TCPs and standards.
  • Inspect traffic control layouts throughout shift.
  • Adjust or replace traffic control as job conditions change.
  • Loading and unloading trucks.
  • Hauling traffic control equipment using trailers.
  • Setting up and removing arrow board and message board trailers.
  • Filling and setting sandbags to secure signage.
  • Flagging and directing traffic using a stop/slow paddle.
  • Ensuring the safety of themselves, the traveling public, and the contractor.
  • Writing daily traffic control logs.
  • Taking pictures of incidents or accidents for reporting.
  • Submit required paperwork.
  • Writing Job Safety Analysis (JSA) reports.
Work Environment &

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work long hours in outdoor environments in extreme weather conditions.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and walk on uneven terrain.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs repeatedly.
  • Repeatedly climb, kneel, reach, crouch, and crawl.
  • Must be able to work nights, weekends, and extended shifts.
Qualifications
  • TCT Certification (UDOT or ATSSA).
  • OSHA 10 (or willingness to obtain).
  • Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
  • High school diploma or GED (preferred).
  • Minimum of 2+ years of experience in traffic control services (preferred).
  • Strong communication skills for coordinating with clients, crew members, and management.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety protocols.
  • Reliable transportation to get to work.
