Inventory Specialist – Walgreens

Base Pay Range

$17.00/hr – $20.00/hr

Responsibilities
  • Execute, monitor, and train inventory best practices and standard operating procedures for the entire store, including front‑end and pharmacy.
  • Support pharmacy inventory management activities: receiving, counting, ordering, and facilitating returns.
  • Champion On‑Shelf Availability; manage receiving, counting, pricing, returns, and all in‑store inventory processes.
  • Validate and ensure accuracy of planograms.
  • Review and coordinate the proper use of reports and system applications that impact front‑end and pharmacy on‑hand balances and pricing.
  • Execute and maintain asset protection techniques for front‑end and pharmacy; file claims for overages, shortages, order errors, or damaged goods.
  • In designated stores, open and close the store in the absence of store management; perform required systems start‑ups, cash handling, and cashier responsibilities, ensuring the floor and stock room are ready for business.
Customer Experience
  • Engage customers by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
  • When serving as the leader on duty, resolve customer issues and answer questions to ensure a positive customer experience.
  • Model and share customer service best practices with all team members.
Operations
  • Execute and coach team members on warehouse and vendor inventory management processes.
  • Scan all deliveries while the vendor is still in the store; focus on One Box receiving and take appropriate action for deliveries.
  • Under pharmacist supervision, verify all pharmacy shipments and complete postings for warehouse orders, prescription and OTC orders, and other daily activities.
  • Complete On‑Shelf Availability (OSA) end‑to‑end process, including warehouse and DSD for planogrammed departments.
  • Under pharmacist supervision, complete pharmacy inventory activities, including recalls and vendor returns.
  • Execute all pricing activities: price changes, markdowns, and regulatory pricing tasks.
  • Support front‑end and pharmacy ordering of expense items; monitor manual orders to identify excess orders.
  • Maintain accurate inventory counts for all departments, stockroom, and pharmacy.
  • Ensure compliance with state and local laws regarding regulated products.
  • Assist in preparing for physical inventory and support inventory day activities.
  • Keep all counters and shelves clean and well merchandised.
  • Assist and coach the store team on package delivery activities and the Pickup Program.
  • When serving as the leader on duty, handle all point‑of‑sale responsibilities including returns and cash drops.
  • Comply with all company policies and maintain respectful relationships with coworkers.
  • Complete any additional activities and tasks as assigned.
Training & Personal Development
  • Attend company‑based trainings and complete all e‑learning modules, including safety training requirements.
  • Obtain and maintain a valid pharmacy license/certification as required by state.
Communications
  • Serve as liaison between management and non‑management team members; coach and develop others on inventory systems.
  • When leading on duty, communicate tasks to team members and report disciplinary issues and customer complaints to management.
Basic Qualifications
  • Six months of prior work experience with Walgreens (internal candidates) or one year of prior retail work experience (external candidates).
  • Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico).
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
  • “Achieving expectations” rating on last performance review and no written disciplinary actions in the prior 12 months (internal candidates only).
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to multitask and manage execution.
  • Experience in identifying operational issues and recommending and implementing strategies to resolve problems.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience as a shift lead, pharmacy technician, designated hitter, or customer service associate.
  • Prior work experience with Walgreens, with an evaluation on file.
