Facility Operations Supervisor

Responsibilities

Clean Harbors is currently looking for a Facility Operations Supervisor to join their team. This position will oversee daily operations at our Linden, NJ facility, focusing on the movement and placement of waste from Clean Harbors’ facilities and direct generators.

Hours:

Rotating shift (2 weeks on each shift).

• Plant Operations & Oversight:
  Supervise and coordinate daily operations of distillation units and TSDF processes.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
• Monitor process parameters and adjust operations to maintain efficiency and safety.
• Troubleshoot equipment and process issues to minimize downtime.

• Operate and drive yard horse for trailer movement within the facility.
• Perform routine inspections on pumps, compressors, boilers, and distillation columns.
• Open and close valves, climb ladders, and perform manual adjustments as needed.
• Oversee boiler operations; maintain or obtain a boiler license within 6 months of hire.
• Monitor and maintain heat exchangers, condensers, and associated piping systems.
• Ensure proper functioning of control panels, instrumentation, and safety interlocks.
• Coordinate repair activities with maintenance teams and outside contractors.
• Assist in start-up and shutdown of plant systems, including distillation units and waste treatment processes.
• Verify calibration of gauges, meters, and sensors for accurate readings.
• Respond to alarms and abnormal conditions promptly and effectively.

• Enforce safety protocols and conduct regular inspections.
• Respond to emergency situations and implement corrective actions.
• Maintain accurate logs, reports, and documentation for regulatory compliance.

• Train, mentor, and supervise plant operators.
• Schedule work shifts and allocate resources effectively.
• Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training preferred.
• Minimum 3–5 years of experience in industrial operations, preferably in chemical or hazardous waste facilities.
• Ability to obtain a Boiler Operator License within 6 months (current license preferred).
• Valid driver’s license; experience operating yard horse or similar equipment.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to climb ladders, work in confined spaces, and perform physically demanding tasks.
• Knowledge of distillation processes, TSDF operations, and environmental regulations.
