Senior Material Planner

The role is located in Lincolnshire, IL (north of Chicago). This is a hybrid role (after 30 days).

Salary Range: $59, Depending on Experience

Job Description Summary

The Senior Material Planner is responsible for purchasing parts, under the direction of the Parts Purchasing Supervisor and in coordination with the Lead Material Planner. All work follows generally prescribed routines, with supervision being readily available.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Create, review and update assigned purchase orders accurately and per defined schedule
  • Perform pricing, quantity, and other required validation of purchase orders prior to finalization
  • Within established guidelines, make material planning decisions related to order quantities, frequency and shipment method
  • Review & update PO’s when required and assure confirmation status
  • Track & confirm deliveries of assigned PO materials
  • Continuously monitor past due status and reconcile discrepancies with suppliers
  • Maintain high accuracy of PO data & processing
  • Take action to expedite backordered, past due, and/or out of stock materials/orders as necessary
  • Research receiving discrepancies to resolve quantity issues
  • Maintain material master data as backup to Material Analyst
  • Research accounting discrepancies to resolve pricing issues
  • Maintain various spreadsheets and other data records by extracting, combining, updating, and creating new spreadsheets
  • Assist department in maintaining up-to-date supplier information
  • Manage special projects as assigned
  • Make copies, fax documents, perform other clerical functions and duties as assigned
  • Maintain an organized and secure work environment
  • Support co-workers in other departments as needed
  • Inform Manager of all noteworthy activities
  • Follow safety guidelines and department and corporate policies and procedures

Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of purchasing processes, and supply chain management
  • Knowledge of MRP/ERP processes; preferably within SAP
  • Knowledge of inventory management standards and practices
  • Ability to follow standard work instructions; be reliable and punctual
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to multi-task, establish priorities and meet deadlines, maintain a flexible attitude and approach towards assignments, and maintain level of organization in a changing and fast paced environment
  • Good command of the English language, both written and verbal
  • Ability to comprehend a variety of instructions, both oral and written
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, and establish facts
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers and decimals
  • Intermediate knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications
  • Advanced knowledge of SAP
  • Ability to operate telephone, copier, fax machines, and other general office equipment
  • Ability to travel, possibly overnight, often with last minute notice; travel internationally
Education and Training
  • Associates Degree or equivalent
  • Experience with MRP/ERP systems; preferably with SAP
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products
  • 3-5 years purchasing, supply chain or inventory management experience
Physical Demands
  • Sitting for long periods of time with frequent walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching
  • Dexterity to make fast, simple, repeated movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists
  • Movement by holding, turning, and grasping of objects
  • Reaching by extending hands in any direction
  • Ability to drive a car and travel by air
  • Ability to hear normal conversations on phone or in person
  • Ability to see more than 20 feet
  • Ability to see color and see/read computer screen
Work Environment
  • Work is performed in an office environment. Noise level is moderate
  • Limited exposure to the warehouse. Limited exposure to temperature variations when shipping doors are open
  • While traveling, will experience noise and comfort levels common to automobiles and airplanes

  • Computer and other general office equipment
