Area Supervisor Level I

Responsibilities

Under general supervision, oversee the maintenance and repair of a designated borough, dealing with roadways, highways, and related structures. Supervise highway repair crews and yard personnel, conduct street and arterial maintenance, investigate roadway defects, patrol roadways for storm damage and flood conditions, and provide onsite instructions for corrective methods. Conduct timely post‑inspection of completed work, ensure safety measures are in place, evaluate subordinates fairly, provide training, review timesheets, attend meetings, and prepare productivity reports.

• Four years of full‑time satisfactory experience as a working member of a roadway or bridge/tunnel maintenance and repair crew using asphalt and concrete mixes, and/or performing tasks such as debris/bulk removal, mechanical sweeping, and drain/scupper cleaning on bridges/tunnels or related structures.
• At least two years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.
• Possession of a valid Class B Commercial Driver License in the State of New York with no restrictions on the use of air brakes, maintained for the duration of employment.
• Assignment Level II: at least one year of experience working in Assignment Level I or an additional year of experience described above, and at least three years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.
