The John Knox Village fitness staff utilizes award-winning AI technology, state-of-the-art fitness centers with high-end equipment and a variety of classes to enhance residents’ well-being and health. You, as a group fitness instructor and/or personal trainer, can make a difference by designing individual fitness programs to improve balance, increase strength and stability, reduce pain and inflammation and enhance the overall health of those we serve.

This position offers flexible scheduling and no nights or weekends.
Job Summary:
Leads programs for recreation, physical fitness (floor, chair, water), information, education and entertainment programs. Supports the Village’s mission, values, and service/hospitality (PRIDE) expectations. Completes training as required by policy.
Job Details:
Full-Time, Monday-Friday, 7:30a-4p, Occassional Saturday or Evening Class. Pay Rate Based Upon Related Experience. The responsibilities described above represent the primary responsibilities of the job. Other responsibilities may be assigned by the supervisor as warranted by business needs. The incumbent is expected to perform all assigned responsibilities.
- Conducts fitness programs for health, education, entertainment and recreational purposes.
- May provide personal training to members.
- Organizes and instructs exercise classes for all fitness levels.
- Ensures all participants are properly trained on the use of the facility’s exercise equipment.
- Responsible for making sure that the exercise area and equipment are safe and clean.
- Lead classes in floor, chair and water exercises.
- May develop, schedule and promote fitness activities in Village activity areas.
- Assist with Village Activity big events and other activities as requested.
- Collects health history questionnaires, release forms, and physician consent forms from members.
- Provides orientation to fitness center and develops individual exercise programs for clients.
- Adheres to all safety regulations and requirements.
- Handles stress well and gets along with others within the workplace and with customers outside the department.
- Maintains acceptable standards of workplace conduct.

Education and Qualifications Essential Qualifications- Bachelors of Science degree in fitness related field preferred.
- Land and water based fitness instruction certifications required.
- Must have personal training/group instructor certification.
- Current valid driver’s license is required with proof of insurance.
- Must have a current CPR Certification or must obtain within first 90 days of employment.
- Basic level knowledge of Microsoft operating system and Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities at the same time.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Ability to perform arithmetic and interpret measurements as required for fitness programming.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Must have 1-3 years’ experience in Fitness, Therapy or related field.
