Under the general direction and supervision of the Superintendent, the Maintenance Worker II - Electrician is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and repair of all electrical motors, machines, fixtures, and wiring, or any electrical extensions as required by the college. The Maintenance Worker II - Electrician assists in HVAC maintenance, plumbing, and general maintenance throughout the Plant as required. Safely and accurately execute plans of electrical wiring for well-functioning lighting, intercom, and other electrical systems.
This full-time regular position may be assigned or responsible for other general maintenance, construction, or physical plant responsibilities, such as grounds or custodial services, as needed by the College.
Essential Functions
* Install, maintain, and repair electrical control, wiring, and lighting systems.
* Perform complete maintenance and repairs on electrical appliances (weekly), including fans, buffers, drills, vacuum cleaners, and extension cords. Disassemble.
* Perform general electrical maintenance and circuit breaker corrective maintenance.
* Inspect for the problem, check with the electronic motor or a test light. Order parts necessary to make repairs. Make repairs and reassemble.
* Inspect transformers, circuit breakers, and other electrical components, troubleshoot electrical issues using appropriate testing devices, and repair and replace equipment, electrical wiring, or fixtures.
* Perform maintenance and repair on electric motors:
Remove conductors from the motor. Remove the motor from the mounting frame. Disassemble the motor. Clean, replace bearings, bushings, or other parts. Reassemble and install. Maintain magnetic switches (motor contractors or lighting relays), remove covers, check voltage, and check continuity. Disassemble, replace bad parts. Reassemble and place back in the circuit.
* Maintain Circuit Breaker:
Check load on circuit breaker using an amp meter. Disconnect conductors from the breaker, install a new breaker, connect conductors, and replace the cover on the breaker panel.
* Maintain P.A. System:
Check standby batteries. Check acid level, add battery water if needed. Clean the tops of the batteries.
* Maintain Emergency Lighting:
Check wet cell batteries. Add fluid if needed. Clean battery. Replace bad batteries. Replace bad cell batteries as needed.
* Operation and Maintenance of the Fire Alarm System.
* Remodeling Projects:
Shut down the alarm system in the area that is being remodeled. Remove smoke and heat detectors. Install new conduit and wiring for detectors. Install new detectors and activate the alarm circuit
* Clean Detectors:
Shut down alarm system, clean faulty detectors, activate alarm circuit, and maintain transformer vault.
* Clean the transformer vault using cleaning equipment. Check voltage and amperage on the secondary side of the transformer and record.
* Assists with General Maintenance as assigned: assists the plumbing and heating specialist with mechanical or electrical problems. Assist the refrigeration and air conditioning mechanic with mechanical or electrical problems.
* Assist in programming and maintaining climate control system/HVAC systems, perform complete maintenance and repair, including changing motors, belts, and filters, greasing motors and pulleys, bleeding air from the system, and adjusting the fresh-air intake, adjusting individual room temperatures, and assisting in operating the building automation system.
* Supervise assigned workers:
Work with and closely supervise workers, including student workers, assigned to work with the person in this position.
* Coordinate electrical installation on remodeling projects:
Meet with the department head to review plans. Make up an estimate on materials and cost for projects. Order materials for projects. Proceed with electrical installation.
* Maintain Inventory on Electrical Equipment and Materials:
Check stock. Order materials.
* Assist in Budget Preparation:
Budget for electrical needs.
* Inspect electrical work while in process and upon completion.
* Monitor the work of contractors. Review the operation of equipment installed by contractors.
* Maintain electronic key-lock/access systems.
* Delegate work orders to assigned workers. Inspect electrical work being done by assigned staff or student workers.
* Maintain work orders and time sheets daily.
* Change Light Bulbs/Repair Light Fixtures:
Change light bulbs or repair light fixtures in gymnasiums, outdoor courts, street lights, security lights, and in buildings. Use a scaffold or step ladder for interior lights. Use an extended scaffold on a forklift or bucket truck for exterior lights. Remove shade or open fixture, change bulb, or repair light fixture.
* Operate Equipment and Hand Tools:
Responsible for safe operation of hand tools and equipment while performing various essential functions of the position. This includes pliers, dikes, screwdrivers, nut drivers, pipe wrenches, socket wrenches, vise grips, hammers, crescent…
