This position will monitor the physical safety of campus buildings, visitors, and doors, patrol or monitor using surveillance systems, respond to calls or emergency situations, and report suspicious behavior. Ability to deal with individuals and situations in a respectful, professional, calm, tactful, and firm manner. Ability to patrol campus grounds, review and address parking and traffic issues. This is a part-time regular position.
All Public Safety Officers must abide by the following rules:
* Obey all College policies, procedures, and operational guidelines.
* Do not consume alcoholic beverages while on duty and shall not engage in illegal drug use at any time nor report for duty impaired by any substance.
* Do not willfully neglect duties, sleep during an assigned shift, or "hang out" in the office.
* Do not make personal calls or conduct personal business while on duty, unless it is of an emergency nature (i.e. family emergency) or while on break.
* Public Safety Officers will be expected to learn the layout of the campus, names of buildings, assigned parking lots, and the color of the parking permit for that lot. They must review and address parking and traffic violations and issue warnings and citations according to campus procedures and respond to safety and security concerns.
* Public Safety Officers shall be dressed in a supplied uniform that is neat and clean. They will have good hygiene with an overall professional look.
* Maintain a positive, professional attitude at all times.
* Use only the minimum necessary force to accomplish the security objective. Do not use unnecessary force or violence when dealing with any person.
* Do not share personal information of students, staff, or faculty.
* Communicate and follow the direction of Campus Administrators to ensure proper security and safety measures are implemented as related to students, employees, facilities, and property.
Essential Functions
Public Safety Officers' Responsibilities
It is the duty of all Public Safety Officers to complete all work assigned to them. Public
Safety Officers are responsible for overall duties applicable to all campuses as well as for campus-specific duties.
All
Shifts:
* Assume your assigned post; pick up the required equipment and check it for proper operation.
* Review pass-on information; activity calendar, bulletin board, memorandums, and e-mails immediately upon arriving for duty.
* Carry the SCC-issued cell phone for communication purposes; to answer all calls, respond to calls as soon as possible, and respond immediately in an emergency situation.
* Make continuous patrols of the campus; check all SCC property on campus- buildings, parking lots, recreation areas, and construction sites-in order to prevent theft, damage, or vandalism and for the protection of students, staff, faculty, and property.
* Stagger the security patrols to avoid an established pattern.
* Attend sporting events taking place on campus.
* Respond to calls for service from faculty, staff, students, or others.
* Provide physical security, personal security, and crime prevention.
* Serve as liaison for law enforcement and emergency responders when they are summoned to campus.
* Investigate any suspicious person or incidents, and report it to the local police if necessary.
* Escort students or staff returning to vehicles upon request.
* Issue warnings and or violations for vehicles without parking permits, parked in the wrong parking lot, or in a no-parking area.
* Report areas that are not properly secured, are safety hazards, security violations, or other anomalies on/around Campus, and escalate situations that need immediate attention.
* Complete Daily Activity Report (DAR) by the end of each shift
* Respond to all fire alarms and medical calls on campus.
* Perform fire watches when fire alarm systems are not in operation.
* Implement College emergency/disaster response plans and procedures, and strictly comply with all established procedures, plans, and processes in a safe, responsible, and professional manner.
* Call 911 to request assistance in the event of an emergency-medical, fire, etc.
* Report immediately all accidents involving personal injury and property damage. Complete a report as soon as practicable.
