Job Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg position at an acute care hospital in Nebraska, requiring at least 1 year of experience and a valid NE or compact RN license.

Responsibilities
  • Acute care hospital setting on a 42-bed Med/Surg unit serving medical, surgical, and orthopedic patients
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5-6, with a 1:6 ratio occurring at least once per week
  • Nurse aides/patient care techs available with a 1:10-12 ratio
  • Charge nurse present on each shift and carries their own patient assignment
  • Heparin drips are used; no other titratable drips
  • Telemetry monitors are present on the floor with a centralized telemetry monitoring station
  • Respiratory therapy is available 24 hours on the unit and handles all equipment setup
  • 12-hour night shifts (1830–0700)
  • Weekends and holidays required on an as-needed basis
  • No call or standby requirement
  • Float requirement to PCU or Burn unit
  • Charting is done in Epic
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility; driver's license is used to verify permanent address
  • Candidates who are or have been directly employed full time, part time, or PRN by any Common Spirit-affiliated facility (including CHI and/or Dignity) within the past year are not eligible — candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
  • Orientation consists of one week of classroom training followed by two 12-hour shifts on the floor
  • A pass/fail open-book skills exam is administered on the Friday of orientation week — a score of 90% or higher is required to pass; failure results in contract termination
  • Navy blue scrubs required
  • Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply will result in contract termination
  • 2 professional references are required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked — both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • RTO must be requested upfront and is limited to 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract; additional RTO will not be approved
Requirements
  • Active NE state or compact (NLC) RN license required — pending licenses not accepted
  • Current BLS certification required — pending certifications not accepted
  • Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
  • Driver's license required for consideration and used to verify residence outside the 50-mile radius
