Overview

President & Executive Director

The president and executive director serves as the chief executive officer of the Nebraska Society of CPAs, providing strategic leadership, operational oversight, and external representation for the Society, its Foundation, and the Political Education Committee (PEC). This role is responsible for advancing the mission of the Society, strengthening the CPA profession in Nebraska, and ensuring the organization’s long-term sustainability through effective governance, advocacy, member engagement, and financial stewardship.

Responsibilities
  • Leadership & Governance – Partner with the Board of Directors to develop and execute long- and short-term strategic goals, budgets, and policies.
  • Provide recommendations on governance matters, including bylaw amendments, policy updates, and organizational change.
  • Prepare agendas, materials, and issue briefs; facilitate effective discussion and decision-making for the Board of Directors, Executive Committee, Foundation Board of Trustees, and committees.
  • Ensure accurate preparation, distribution, and recordkeeping of meeting minutes and board documents.
  • Financial & Operational Management – Oversee preparation of financial statements, annual budgets, and audits, ensuring fiscal integrity of a $1.5 million operating budget.
  • Execute contracts and agreements authorized by the Board of Directors.
  • Direct the Society’s staff, programs, and services, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team culture.
  • Drive revenue growth through continuing professional education (CPE) programs, partnerships, and third-party relationships.
  • Advocacy & Public Policy – Lead the Society’s governmental relations efforts, including oversight of contract lobbyists, legislative bill drafting, and writing and presenting testimony before the Legislature.
  • Monitor state and federal legislative developments, assessing impact on the CPA profession.
  • Strengthen the profession’s influence and reputation through strategic advocacy and stakeholder engagement.
  • Member & Public Engagement – Spearhead member recruitment, retention, and engagement, including firm visits and outreach efforts.
  • Enhance the visibility and public image of the CPA profession in Nebraska, emphasizing the value of the CPA certificate and license.
  • Oversee communications and public relations efforts, including the Nebraska CPA magazine, digital publications, website content, and social media strategy.
  • Travel throughout Nebraska and nationally to represent the Society and foster relationships.
  • Be able to adapt to new firm structures and ownership.
  • Education – Co-lead, with the vice president, the design and delivery of CPE programs, courses, and promotional initiatives.
  • Involvement with in-person trainings put on by the Society.
  • Help adapt to training needs that arise and opportunities for members.
  • Philanthropy – Direct fundraising strategies for both the Foundation and PEC, advancing scholarship, educational, and advocacy goals.
  • Help drive support for future generations of CPAs and support the continued mission of the Society.
  • Organizational Expectations – Embody the profession’s core values: integrity, independence, and objectivity.
  • Demonstrate resiliency, adaptability, diplomacy, and sound judgment.
  • Recruit, develop, and lead staff while managing strong external relationships.
  • Embrace technology and innovation to advance the Society’s mission.
  • Professional Competencies, Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Proven executive leadership and organizational management experience.
  • Prior experience working with or leading volunteer-driven organizations preferred.
  • Strong listening, consensus-building, and mediation skills.
  • Exceptional written and digital communication abilities.
  • Proficiency and comfort with public speaking, including at events, meetings, and in other public settings to support the Society.
  • Demonstrated success in legislative affairs, advocacy, or public policy engagement.
