Position Title: Head Custodian
8 hours per day (6:30 am to 2:30 pm) for a 12‑month period. Training wage $19.84 per hour. District‑paid health and dental insurance.
Essential DescriptionUnder direct supervision of the Director of Facilities, Business Manager and School Principal, the Head Custodian is responsible for daily custodial operations, maintaining a sanitary and safe facility for students, employees, and the public; minimizing property damage, loss, and liability exposure; and overseeing and supporting assigned custodians.
Essential Functions- Clean assigned school facilities (classrooms, offices, gym, restrooms, grounds) to maintain a sanitary, safe work environment.
- Deliver items and materials (supplies, mail, packages, furniture) to the appropriate parties.
- Inform students, site personnel, and supervisors of activities, safety, or maintenance issues.
- Inspect school facilities to ensure suitability for safe operations and identify necessary repairs.
- Lead, direct, and assist in organizing written work schedules and performance inspections of custodial employees.
- Maintain active substitute lists for scheduling substitutes and floating assignments.
- Maintain preventative maintenance schedule for HVAC equipment, including quarterly air filter changes, fan motors, and belts.
- Oversee minor maintenance work performed by custodial staff.
- Maintain inventory of supplies and develop requisitions with building custodians for school and cleaning supplies.
- Meet with principals and custodians to provide reports on building needs and conditions.
- Respond to immediate safety and operational concerns (e.g., facility damage, alarms) to resolve issues and maintain a functioning environment.
- Evaluate custodians' areas using evaluation reports provided by the Manager of Support Services.
- Check buildings and grounds to ensure proper cleaning.
- Ensure shrubs, lawns, and flower beds are trimmed, clean, and safe.
- Arrange furniture and equipment for meetings, classroom activities, or events.
- Maintain records of employees' time, performance, and overtime.
- Work with district employees, service companies, and contractors to maintain and improve the work environment.
- Coordinate with principals or designee to develop work orders.
- Solicit price proposals from vendors for supplies and equipment and assist with solicitation of proposals from outside contractors.
- Instruct custodial employees on system failures and shut‑off procedures for water, fire sprinklers, gas, and electric.
- Train assigned personnel to develop professional trade and safety awareness skills.
- Attend in‑service training (e.g., blood borne pathogens, cleaning solvents, floor care, first aid) to receive information on new and improved procedures.
Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure a clean, safe work environment.
Equipment- Use hand tools and power equipment (brooms, mops, floor cleaning and waxing machines, vacuum cleaners, snow blowers, shovels, power mower, and other hand tools).

- Follow all applicable safety rules, procedures, and regulations governing the use of tools and power equipment.
- Wear appropriate safety gear, including masks.
- Comply with the district's chemical hygiene program and follow MSDS sheets.
Frequent travel between schools or between schools and the Central Office is required.

- Ability to carry out instructions in written or oral form.
