Position: City Park Worker for Fleet & Signs

NYC Parks is the steward of over 30,000 acres of land – 14% of New York City. We operate more than 800 athletic fields and nearly 1,000 playgrounds, 1,800 basketball courts, 550 tennis courts, 65 public pools, and 51 recreational facilities. From the iconic Central Park to neighborhood playgrounds, we own and operate some of the most spectacular green spaces in the world.

Within the division of Fleet, the City Park Workers are an integral part of the team, ensuring the maintenance, effectiveness and efficiency of our buildings and facilities, as well as providing important work critical to daily operations of the office.

Major Responsibilities
  • Assist in general maintenance work, including lawn mowing, edging, seeding, snow removal, cultivating, fertilizing, sod laying, hedge trimming, sweeping and raking of litter and emptying of receptacles.

    Clean and maintain facilities including public restrooms stations.
  • Perform minor repair work including but limited to plumbing, masonry, electrical, painting, carpentry, metal work and vehicle and equipment repair.
  • Drive vehicles and operate certain other motorized equipment.
  • May assist the sign shop in deliveries, maintaining stock inventory, sign production, and closing out work orders.
  • Perform safety checks on facilities and equipment.
  • May move furniture, climb and perform other physical activities as required in the performance of assigned duties.

Duration: 6 months, Spring 2026 to Fall 2026

Fees:
Hired candidates will be subject to a processing fee of $68.00. Hired candidates who are not currently employed by the City will be subject to a $101.25 background check fee.

Minimum Qualifications
  • There are no formal education or experience requirements for this position.
  • A Motor Vehicle Driver's License valid in the State of New York is required.
  • Ability to read and to understand and obey orders is required.
  • There are certain medical and physical requirements.
Preferred Skills
  • Ability to drive to locations in all 5 boroughs.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, nights and weekends as needed.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish.
  • Strong organizational, communication and leadership skills.
  • Commercial Driver License a plus.

Residency Requirement

Residency in New York City, Nassau, Orange, Rockland, Suffolk, Putnam, or Westchester counties required for employees with over two years of city service. New York City residency is required for all other candidates.
