GENERAL SUMMARY

Performs computed tomography (CT) procedures under the supervision of a qualified physician. Uses CT technology and techniques to assist in the diagnosis of patient medical problems for patients throughout the age continuum.

PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.
  • Performs all types of CT studies to include diagnostic and interventional procedures; practices radiation safety for patients, staff, and self.
  • Uses sterile technique as required.
  • Optimally demonstrates patient anatomy through proper positioning and selection of technical factors.
  • Performs venipuncture.
  • Competently operates all CT equipment and support systems to include EPIC, PACS and teleradiography.
  • Performs and evaluates images for technical quality.
  • Reviews patient history and provide accurate documentation of studies.
  • Properly cares for and imaging patients of all ages; maintains patient confidentiality.
  • Coordinates exams within the department and with other departments to provide expedient and complete care; communicates with medical staff, coworkers, patients, families, and other hospital staff to assure quality patient care.
  • Handles telephone calls for scheduling, coordination, or questions with courtesy and accuracy.
  • Participates in the department's quality improvement plan as required.
  • Cleans, disinfects and maintains equipment as necessary; notifies coordinator of equipment problems and calls appropriate service vendors as needed.
  • Keeps work area properly supplied.
  • Assists with departmental orientation and student clinical education as directed.
  • Accesses and administers drugs and biologicals that are pertinent to essential job functions in accordance with standard operating procedures.
  • Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
  • Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE,

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Maintains clinical competency as required for the unit including but not limited to age-specific competencies relative to patient's growth and developmental needs, annual skill competency verification and mandatory education and competencies.
  • Knowledge of CT positioning, use of technical factors and radiation safety practices.
  • Knowledge of CT non-invasive and invasive procedures.
  • Knowledge of Joint Commission, federal and state regulations related to radiography.
  • Knowledge of computer hardware and software applications relevant to work functions.
  • Skill in operating CT equipment, PACS, and other related systems.
  • Ability to react appropriately and perform work effectively under stressful and emergent situations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to prioritize work demands and work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to interact effectively with patients, family, staff, and physicians.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality relevant to sensitive information.
  • Ability to care for diverse patients throughout the age continuum.
  • Ability to exercise courtesy and professionalism in the work environment.
  • Ability to practice proper body mechanics to ensure personal and patient safety.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of patients and families in accordance with HIPPA regulations and hospital procedures.
  • Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) required. Current State of Nebraska Medical Radiographer license required.

OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS

Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required. Bryan Health recognizes American Heart Association (for healthcare professionals), American Red Cross (for healthcare professionals) and the Military Training Network.
